Since this is the Rant thread, I'll take the opportunity to say that I find Alex Trebek reprehensible to the point where I'd have to leave the room if Jeopardy were on. I find his manner smarmy and patronizing, but that's not even the issue. It's that he shills for Colonial Penn, an insurer of dubious probity which preys on the fears of the elderly and misrepresents the value of the policies they sell. Trebek doesn't need the money. How can he live with himself?

I'm not a fan of Trebek myself (for the exact reasons you mention). It's all about the questions and answers for me. My favorite way to watch is DVRed with the commercials and the player chats removed. I don't care about them or the host. It's the only US gameshow where knowledge is king. No lifelines, no phone a friend, no bad-spin-and-you're-bankrupt--just ring in first and know the answer (question).

I have a regularly scheduled haircut appointment every three weeks and my barber usually has Jeopardy on. It's frustrating when she turns on the electric clipper just when the answer is being revealed.

That's why there are DVRs. (If I lived in the US, that would be TiVo, not DVR, btw.) We always watch Jeopardy as the last thing before bed. If I'm out of town for business, my DW doesn't watch Jeopardy, we save them up. That covers Sundays, and teen tournaments.

I really don't care about Alex, it's the questions and the answers that are interesting. We fast forward through all the discussion.

My family (father's side) isn't able to organize a family get together without some drama.

I'm feeling emotionally raw right now and I need to step back from them for a bit. However, there is a plus side; I don't feel obligated to go to the get togethers anymore. That's at least something.

Now I need to make sure the drama won't ruin my vacation next week.

Did I neglect to say this is at my barber's shop? Whilst getting my hair cut? With electric clippers? Turning my head to see the TV and read the CC is a sure fire guarantee for possibly fatal rat bites!

Well, no, you mentioned the barber. You did, however, neglect to mention that the TV was at a 90-degree angle, etc. I can see why you might prefer to miss the context than your ears. :-)

I was surprised when my barber recently installed a closed caption TV for every chair - there only four chairs. They usually have them tuned to Arabic or Greek channels - but they ask if you'd like something else - like the cricket

Oh, and price didn't increase, still only AU$12 for the grey beards.

Lessee, figger figger, AU$12 is $8.62 US. Mine costs $9.00 US after tax, so your getting more (4 TVs with CC Vs. 1 TV without CC) for less.
