I feel a tad overwhelmed on the books I own. I told myself to stop buying nonsense and stick with the top authors and still finding myself picking up books I should maybe rent as library book and not buy. I am proud that I did manage to delete a few more books at least. I need to concentrate on reading what I have. Audio books help a great deal for I can multi task while doing other things and get reading done. I read 3 to 5 books at a time. I think maybe I should narrow it down to two at a time and just knock each book out faster

It's important to remember that one is reading for enjoyment, not just to read a lot. If you like reading 3 to 5 books at a time, carry on.

I just messed up and accidentally bought a book at full price! Luckily Amazon allowed me to return it without fuss.

It was a pre-order made last year, hoping that sometime in the pre-order period the price would drop to a reasonable amount. It didn't, but I failed to cancel the pre-order in time.

Thank goodness for Amazon return/refund policies.

A lesson for everyone to set a calendar reminder when making a pre-order.

I'd never have thought it of you!

I prefer to buy from Kobo all else being equal, but I agree that Amazon's return policy is a plus. (I ended up returning one of my late last year purchases at that, once I came to my senses.) On the other hand, given that most annoying one-click mechanism for buying ebooks, they do need some way of undoing random touch purchases, of which I've made more than one. And sometimes not realizing it until the purchase confirmation showed up in my inbox!

I only use Kobo as that links to my local independent book store and they get some of the profit whenever I buy an ebook. Amazon might kill us all one day, but I am trying to do my bit to slow them down at least a little.

This made me laugh. ONCE, my late sister bought a book at Full Price (it was the latest Dresden, but still in paperback). We made a major production of that since she never bought stuff at full price. Good series though, the patience to wait for the paperback was truly awesome in her case.

I've done pretty badly on the non-purchasing in January mostly because there were specials on books in series that I am actively reading this year. Still, $3.99 plus tax was the max even on the audiobooks.

It was £10.44!

I don't think I've ever bought an ebook for more than £10. I do have three entries in calibre for >£10 ebooks, but one of those is really the hardback price (with ebook), and the other two were Fictionwise purchases back in the days of 50% and 100% micropay rebates.

In fact, I've only ever bought 21 books costing more than £6. And that's out of around 3700 books!

For non-free books bought, my median price is £1.50, mode is £0.99 and mean is £1.72.
I suppose that makes sense.

I just checked current exchange rates and discovered that I've only bought maybe 5 books that cost more than £10. Now that I've left the Amazon for Kindle, most ebooks I buy are a little dearer, but I have yet to start buying non-fiction on my Kobo. Kobo's prices for NON-fiction are insane in their NZ store - I have yet to come across any I would want to read that cost as little as the equivalent of £10, most are 2.5 times that much and up.

I've spent over £10 for perhaps 2 ebooks. Both were non-fiction reference books. I do spend more for audiobooks. However, when I averaged the Whispersync costs with my membership at Audible, I think my average was about $6.

I just bought a James Patterson new release on my kobo and feel guilty. I told myself I will stop buying till I read a few that I already have but on the brighter side I have developed a small reading list for 2019 That I am determined to read should help slow down my buying. This is my rough list for now

KOBO
-----
JUROR #3
THE DEAD ZONE
MODERAN
ARTEMIS
NOS4A2
CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE
ALONG CAME A SPIDER
THE BROKER
THE RUNAWAY JURY
WHAT THE NIGHT KNOWS
The house next door ( james Patterson)

Kindle
-------
The reckoning ( currently finishing)
Woman in the Window( currently finishing)
The Regulators
Red Dragon
3rd Degree ( Womans Murder Club)
Red Sparrow
The Da Vinci Code
The Heroin Diaries
Logans Run
The Andromeda Strain
Jurassic Park

As you should! Next time, just add it to a wish list at luzme.com or ereaderiq.com, and read something else until it becomes available at a reasonable price.

One of the great advantages of a large pile of unread ebooks is that you can wait for the special offers for most books.

We all set our own parameters, but I give a pass to anyone who buys a book for immediate consumption. I don't myself as there's no book that I feel I absolutely must read as soon as it comes out, but I know it's hugely important for some and reading is for love after all. For me, it's a worse problem that I do fall for sales on wishlist books and then they languish. Sometimes for years.

A book that's bought and read immediately never hits the TBR!

I'd never heard of either of those sites before, so I checked them out to see if they were relevant up here in Aotearoa/NZ. Luzme says
Quote:
Luzme works in all the major English-speaking countries.
and then at the bottom of the page lists
Quote:
USA UK Canada Australia India Germany Spain
I had no idea the last two were "major English-speaking countries", but was disappointed (though not remotely surprised) to learn that one ACTUAL Anglophone country doesn't count.

Do you get ebooks through amazon.com? If so, either of them might do. But I must admit that I don't actually know.

If there's a specific NZ Amazon site, you can still add books to an Amazon wish list to keep an eye on them for offers.
