Aura One Special Edition - Green Light

Hey all, Long time lurker on the forums, lots of good details helping me decide on what readers to get. After using various Kindles for several years, I decided to give Kobo a try, and purchased a Aura One Special edition in December of 2017. I have enjoyed using it over the post year, although there were some small issues with screen uniformity, I was resigned that nothing was perfect. However, over the past few days the screen has been flickering, and now it has turned a solid green. Kobo support seems to think this is a software issue and advised me to do a factory reset and make sure it was updated, which I did, but obviously that was not going to solve the problem. It looks like whatever LEDs that were being used have had some sort of temperature crisis. Any ideas on a fix since it looks like Kobo will not be fixing this? A bit bummed that a $300 device lasted barely a year before blowing up. |

This is the kind of dishonestly that would put one off ever dealing with a company again in the future. I hope they do the right thing and replace your device. Good luck.

the joys of tech support.. it doesn't matter *what* the problem is, (unless it's something specific they have a script for.).. 1st tier support is going to fall back to factory reset.. don't take personally,, just follow along with the support script until you get past it.

I totally agree with @rashkae, I think you need to call support again, tell you've already done the requested thing and ask for a repair.

@Hisoka: You can test the LEDs if you want. There is function in the developer options to do this. The steps are:
You can adjust each LED to see which has failed. Or if something else is going on. I'm guessing as the photos show green and blue, that the red LED has failed. The warranty on these devices is a year, so you are just past it. But, I'd push a bit to try and get them offer a discount on a replacement device. And check your consumer protection laws. In Australia, there laws have a clause for "reasonable expectation of life" which would cover at least repair for something like this. | |
