Seriously folks, do I have a problem? Because I'm thinking of hiring a maid so that I don't spend half the weekend cleaning when I'd rather be reading. And would it be rude to llounge on the sofa reading while the maid works around me while cleaning up my reading area snack debris?

Shy little introvert, just checking out the meeting. (ooh, too many people here) I'm not really addicted to MR; nope. Just visiting to see what y'all are talking about. I'll just take a seat here in the corner. [as in the comic strip RoseIsRose, i'm a bit less shy when my alter-ego Xena comes to the fore] |

I'll post my recipe tomorrow (if i remember) but it's similar to this recipe for anadama bread. Mine is from the Betty Crocker cookbook (circa 1960!) but it's a variant under their anadama bread recipe. Use above recipe with oatmeal instead of cornmeal. Don't bother cooking, just add to boiling water (& honey & butter) & let sit for 5 min. Also use honey instead of molasses. I've been making it since I was 10 or so (in, um, 1967) from my Mom's cookbook. I also adapted it to a bread machine. I suspect the original recipe was from left over oatmeal from breakfast -- hence, already cooked, and perhaps flavored with butter and honey or brown sugar. I now eat my oatmeal that way, in a back derivation! Last edited by badgoodDeb; 03-04-2009 at 04:51 PM. |

Fancy that -- Betty Crocker is on the web too! This is the recipe, slightly adapted for a bread machine, but you could get it to work by hand too. (Possibly more flour kneaded in). I personally use walnuts instead of sunflower seeds. Delish!!
