So, yes, you do need to install the factory firmware. Even though is has the same version number, it is different. |

@seeker7:
Though I really appreciate to become bothered please allow one humble question. Why doesn't you use the tool "Calibre" to convert all your epubs into shiny and new mobis, which your Kindle Reader would love to provide you to read? |

@makue because mobi is now a deprecated format. If anyone wants to go that route it would be much better to use @jhowell excellent plugin:KFX Output for Calibre and convert epubs into kfx format. I was doing the same till recently but now I want to waltz with a jaibreaked kindle too.

KOA2
Back to the conundrum at hand I have installed the factory firmware and I am now on 5.9.0.6 but when I use the factory jaibreak from Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks thread and type ;installHtml my KOA2's screen flashes and the device reboots but no "You are jailbroken" book appears.
I am using windows 7 with Firefox as browser. I even tried reflashing the factory firmware but the result was same. Guys any leads?? |

Did Firefox uncompress main-htmlviewer.tar.gz ?
That is, is the file name exactly as above and is it something like 594 bytes in size? |

I am using this file from Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks
kindle-jb-factory-1.2-r15011.tar.xz , upon inspecting its properties it says file size 2.99 kb(3,064 b) and size on disk 4 kb(4096b) Edit: Using 7zip the peeping inside the contents of the jailbreak file, main-htmlviewer.tar.gz shows size of 593 bytes. Skip to step #5 in the first post in the thread:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=313086 It is for the PW3, but step 5 and following are generic for firmware 5.x (Except in step #7 you need to use an Oasis 2 firmware of any version greater than or equal 5.9.0.1, but you might want to stay below 5.10.x for now.) It is examining it, finding a tar bomb, and converting it to a "safe" archive. But it MUST be a tar bomb, that is the type of file the firmware expects and its structure is critical to it doing its job. Fix the "safe" conversion option (turn it off) - OR Use a non-windows download program (curl, wget, ...) - OR Find a friend that can do that and sneaker-net it to your PC. - - - - - Yes, a one byte difference can be critical, IF it is the leading "/" that has been deleted from the internal jailbreak pathname. |

Thanks @j.p.s @knc1 @mergen3107 for the prompt responses. My KOA2 is now jailbroken
![]() I am still on version 5.9.0.6 with the update blocker folder in place and the kindle still unregistered. I have installed mrpi from here:Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=225030 and tired installing KUAL from here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=304 after extracting the update KUAL file and placing it in mrpackages folder and running :log mrpi the screen flashes twice(blank screen) and the kindle reboots. No KUAL button. Any thoughts I am really eyeing KOReader and the Collections manager.HELP!! Last edited by seeker7; 12-28-2018 at 04:01 PM. Reason: Edit: I first used KUAL file from snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks and then from the aforementioned second link, ditto results. |

It is a (special type of) document (yeah, "booklets" are documents, the main page on your Kindle is also a "booklet). In other words, it gets filtered according to your display settings on the main page. Once you find the KUAL "book ( -let)", tap it (as if it was any other document). If what then displays is a blank view rather than a menu ... https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=294765 |
