I'm attempting to run the script to create the output file for patching.

Getting the following

Error: could not apply patches: invalid patch file 'src/nickel.yaml': more than one patch enabled in PatchGroup `Home screen tweaks`

No idea what this refers to. Here are the various options I've enabled

"Remove recommendations (row1col2)" makes also problems with other patches (I think it's the "Remove footer (row3) and increase cover size"), tried it yesterday with patcher V38.

I want to say a big "THANK YOU" to the patch and patch system devs. More so as today I got my Forma and the next thing I did after checking the Forma's display was to update and then patch out the "slice to unlock". Someone at Kobo central must be an UX Grinch...

Moving the patch system to YAML and adding the overrides is a great step forward. Now, if we could get a web UI and a cloud service to download custom patched Kobo firmware as a service ... what a dream!

Hello!

I have read through all nine pages of this thread more than once and it has become very clear...I have NO IDEA what I am doing. I am well versed in many things computer, but this is just beyond me.

I am a long time user of the NightMode hack for my Kobo's. Brilliant! I have recently been using the version that uses the picture file to toggle nightmode. However, I read that this version with the appropriate patch will allow toggling with a radio button. I'm in! This is really the only feature that I'm really interested in. I do not read PDFs ever and really only read files through Overdrive.

I have installed the newest firmware from the first page of this thread. No problem (and LOVE that I can turn off the header and footer). I have downloaded and unzipped the patch zip file as well. No problem. Where I fall apart is on step 5: Enable patches in the files in the src folder (or use the overrides in kobopatch.yaml to keep your options separate).

I have read through each file in Notepad and cannot find any mention anywhere of the invert screen patch. Even if I found it, I don't know what to do with it.

Can anyone with a kind heart please dumb it waaaaay down for me in little baby steps to tell me exactly how to enable a patch? I'm cool with running the bat file and installing the tgz file on Kobo after. It's just step 5 that I fall apart.

Thank you in advance, and Happy New Year from Canada!

Add the following line to your kobopatch.yaml file using something like notepad++, or something else that doesn't mess up line feeds / carriage returns.

Replace adobe page numbers toggle with invert screen: Yes

Note that 4 spaces at the beginning of the line are needed for it to work correctly and it goes immediately below the src/libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml: line in that kobopatch.yaml file.

Then just run the kobopatch.bat or .sh depending on your OS to create your koboroot.tgz file

If that is the only thing you are patching for, then you can simply add a line to the config file.

There would be issues with that as the firmware contains proprietary software.

Well, speaking of that, I've been working on a little side project to add an integrated update server to kobopatch, which would avoid that issue. I'm not actively working on it, just when I have spare time, so it won't be done for a bit, but it may be ready in a few months or so.

That patch has not been submitted for inclusion in the zips, but jcn363 has it in his fork here: https://github.com/jcn363/kobopatch-...c36154618ffR12

How do I incorporate that particular part (Only Reading and My Books) of jcn's forked patch back into the yaml file I'm using to switch on various patches--copy and paste? If that's not the way, please do tell.

For those of us who are new to this, we need instructions, which we'll follow step by step.

Just copy it in to the correct YAML file (in this case, nickel), and then use it just like any other patch.

There are a few other patches I enable on a regular basis, such as removing suggestions from my home screen, longer display of time, et cetera. With full screen mode now part of the stock firmware, I still enable patches for reduced margins, especially the top and bottom ones.

IMHO this would further simplify patching a lot. While I'm well versed with patching, having grown up on assembler, I really appreciate your work in making the process more convenient for the masses (me included). The internal web server would be for giving a local UI to configure the patches to apply, correct?

I like the dedicated download page that links the most recent firmware by device model, and loathe the wiki page which is just terrible in that visitors first need to find out the mark from the device type, then have to hunt for the correct mark and most recent fw version.

On a sidenote: would you think it sensible if kobopatch could also automatically install the final tgz to a mounted device? At least on Linux there's the ability to discover active mount points, from there on a check for direct .kobo subdirs could quickly discover mounted Kobo devices.
