Curtains for Three is the 18th in the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin series by Rex Stout. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, and £1.49 at Kindle UK. This is the Bantam version. There is also a less expensive $1.99 version published by Caramna Corporation available - I'm not sure if this is a "hinky" version or not. If anyone knows anything more about Caramna, it would be nice to know. A quick search wasn't particularly enlightening.

In any case, for the Bantam version:

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Curtains-Thre...dp/B003JMFP1K/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/curtains-for-three
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Curtains-Th...dp/B003JMFP1K/

Spoiler:
Quote:
In these three baffling mysteries of motive and murder, even the great Nero Wolfe finds himself stumped. First there is the case of the two passionate lovebirds who want to make sure that neither is a cold-blooded killer. Then it’s off to the races, where Wolfe must choose from a stable of five likely suspects to corral a killer on horseback. And finally the detective finds himself the confidant of a distraught, self-described grifter who claims a murderer is stalking Wolfe’s own brownstone. Through brilliant deduction is determined to expose the truth behind the veils of illusion—and bring down the curtain on three all-too-clever murderers.

The Silver Locomotive is the 6th in the Railway Detective series by Edward Marston. It has dropped to £1.90 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006WB7PDQ

Spoiler:
Quote:
An exquisitely designed silver coffee-pot in the shape of a locomotive is on its way to Cardiff in the care of the young, talented silversmith, Hugh Kellow. It has been commissioned by wealthy ironmaster Clifford Tomkins for his acquisitive wife, who wants it to be the envy of all her friends – and enemies.

But the coffee-pot is stolen. When a gruesome murder is committed at the Railway Hotel, Winifred Tomkins is distraught. Caring little for the dead silversmith, all she can think about is her missing treasure. Inspector Colbeck and Sergeant Leeming of the Detective Department are summoned to Wales from London by telegraph and they are soon confronted by some additional crimes. The situation is complicated by the arrival of a famous theatre company and by revelations of illicit liaisons among members of the local high society. There is no shortage of suspects and Colbeck has to sift through layers of deceit to find the killer – before it is too late.

If you haven't picked it up free in one of the omnibus collections it's been in, Julie Smith's Crescent City Connection (Skip Langdon #7) is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008DBK6QG

Spoiler:
Quote:
Sure, New Orleans is known for corruption, but suddenly the good guys get a break—an honest police chief. And then someone guns him down. When a terrifying organization called The Jury takes out the cop-killer, Detective Skip Langdon’s on the case. But no one cares! After all, the guy was a cop-killer.

Skip cares really a lot—because she suspects The Jury’s the brainchild of her old nemesis, self-described preacher Errol Jacomine. And because other lives are at stake—those of Jacomine's granddaughter Lovelace and his younger son Isaac. Eager to add Lovelace to his maniacal fold, Jacomine has Lovelace kidnapped, but she escapes and flees to the bohemian home of her Uncle Isaac, an artist and true eccentric known as The White Monk. Isaac’s taken a vow of silence, but uncle and niece manage to communicate and form a bond that could save both their lives. And Langdon comes up with a plan so clever even the FBI can’t shout her down.

And another Edward Marston title in another series - this one £1.90 at Kindle UK. Marston has come a long way and many many books from when I used to pick up his Domesday series in DTB on business trips to the UK. I loved the covers on those books...

Deeds of Darkness, Home Front Detective, #4: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N01TI36

Spoiler:
Quote:
The latest in the Home Front Detective series by master of historical fiction, Edward Marston. In June 1916, a young woman is found dead in a cinema. Harvey Marmion and Joe Keedy are assigned the task of finding the killer who fled in the dark. Before long, two more victims, of striking similarity but differing backgrounds, are found dead around the city. Meanwhile, miles from home, Marmion's son, Paul, prepares for life on the front line as he marches towards the Battle of the Somme.

Frederick Forsyth's The Day of the Jackal is a 99p Daily Deal at Amazon UK

Quote:
One of the most celebrated thrillers ever written, The Day of the Jackal is the electrifying story of the struggle to catch a killer before it's too late.

It is 1963 and an anonymous Englishman has been hired by the Operations Chief of the O.A.S. to murder General de Galle. A failed attempt in the previous year means the target will be nearly impossible to get to. But this latest plot involves a lethal weapon: an assassin of legendary talent.

Known only as The Jackal this remorseless and deadly killer must be stopped, but how do you track a man who exists in name alone?
