Love my Forma. No complaints. My favorite reader yet. I'm surprised that I really like it over my Aura One which I was quite happy with. The buttons and more comfortable hold make a bigger difference than I thought they would.

Yes, the light has the faint line on the button side. I don't use the light much. But when I do, it doesn't bother me. I hold it with buttons on the left, and I don't find it distracting at all, like cones or other lighting uneveness.

I feel the same as Ikmiller. I've loved the 8" screen of my KA1 for the last 2 years. My Forma gives me all the same advantages plus nice quiet page-turn buttons, light weight, better battery life (I think) and a much more even colour when used in "full orange" mode. I have no regrets about buying it.

If the faint grey-light-grey smudge along the button edge is going to bother you, don't buy it. There are photos in this forum which will allow you to judge for yourself whether it's a "bright white streak" or a storm in a teacup. Those who prefer to read with large side margins or with a ragged-right edge may notice it more than those who don't.

As for the so-called flicker and whine issues, I've already posted my personal thoughts in post #192.

I'm absolutely loving my Forma. Holding it is just so comfortable and the screen quality (except for the light band, which I don't really notice), is great.

I'm just worried the sleepcover I have coming, will ruin the feel of it.

I have no regrets.

side by side comparison: forma, aura one, h20 original. in term of text contrast, h2o wins.

obviously it's subjective but it's no surprise to me. the original H2O does have nice clear crisp text/screen. the only reason i didn't buy one at the time was because i preferred the smaller form factor of the original Aura 6" the screen is ok for me but it's not in the same league as the H2O original.

best wishes koboy

That video does appear to be using the Kobo software, but it appears to be a kepub, rather than a CBR or CBZ. If you watch all the way through, it starts on the details page and later shows the menus and light control popus. So, it is being read in the Kobo software. But, the book is a preview from the shop. You can tell this because on the details page, the button next to the cover has what appears to be a price. Then when the menu bars are displayed, the same price and button are shown in the bottom bar.

I do have a manga in my list of previews. And it is behaving in the same way. When I force landscape mode on my Aura ONE, I get a two page display like the. Sideloading a CBZ doesn't do this. For the purchased kepub I am currently reading, it doesn't go into two page modes when I go to landscape. I assume there is something in the kepub for the comic that triggers this behaviour.

And looking at the database on the device, the content table for the pages have the column "properties" set to either "page-spread-left" or "page-spread-right". It doesn't appear to be as simple as adding those, but, it's a starting point for anyone who wants to investigate.

What output profile are you using? Don't use the Kobo one, it is for the original ereader and will downscale the images. Use "Tablet" as that will not change the images.

Otherwise, looking at the code generated, I don't think it is ideal for comics. Though, I don't know what is. You could try Kindle Comic Converter. I don't know if it has been updated for the Forma, but the Aura ONE configuration should be close enough.

I love my e-ink readers, but for CBR, I really recommend a tablet. You can look at even the $50 B&N Nook tablet that has a screen that will do a better job of displaying comic book pages and will have the horsepower to not slow down when loading/navigating.

Even for manga and black and white comics, I use a tablet over an e-ink reader.

Agreed. Even for mostly text pdfs too.

I test "tablet" to convert in kepub, it works well, the quality is the same, thx.

But even in kepub forma the "landscape" mode doesn't works.

Was able to get a hands-on on the Forma in a shop. Wow - very very nice. It's the closest to reading a paperback since my Kindle DX. I also found it so incredibly light. Easy to hold and read.

I did find it sluggish though (get to settings etc.).

The big disadvantage is the price - it's quite expensive.
