Wow, the huge header and footer on epubs is really annoying. I think I'm going to convert my library to kepub. Annoying that I'm forced into it but at least the kepub full screen mode works properly now.
I know I could probably fix the epub margins with a patch but I like to keep life simple. The last thing I want is to replace/reconfigure my device at some point in the future and have weird custom config that I've forgotten about. Actually I like getting rid of kobo_extra.css for this reason. |

I just turn the header and footer off (now that you can do that) and use the Adobe Page number option. Fills up the page really well on my ePubs now.

Are there real changes to the fullscreen options compared to the last patch?
With the last version there was no way to remove an about half a centimeter top margin even in kepubs. |

Ah, good to know. I just finished converting my books to kepub though so I think I'll run with that for now. Good to know the option is there if I want to convert back.

There's also a way to reduce the top margin if you don't mind having your top menu bar the same height (they're based on each other). To do this, enable the header and modify the reduce header menubar size patch and make it however small you want (including 0 if you don't mind losing access to the top menubar). |

Worst firmware ever
Long ago, somewhere around firmware 2.5.2 or so, Kobo tried adding a large page header to ePubs to match the header in KePubs, but quickly reversed it (because of complaints?) Maybe if enough people complain they will reverse it this time too.
I think this is the first time there has been an official firmware update for my device that I won't be installing. I am going to stick with 4.8.11073 which still has the ePub full-scren mode. I can't imaging any possible improvement they could make to the firmware in the future that would make up for the loss of full-screen mode. |

The full screen mode (hide header and footer) in 4.12.12111 is the same for both epubs and kepubs. And, on all my devices, the top and bottom margins are the same for both formats. Or near enough that I can't see the difference. Are you seeing something different to that? Can you see a difference in top margin for the two formats? And for the record, calling the margins "huge" is a bit absurd. Especially when that word has been used for so long to describe the footer and header space. And the new margins look to be about a third of the size of the header and footer. They are a bit bigger than I would like, but by no means "huge". |

Probably me

After installing 4.12.12111 (and with no other changes) the side margins were the same as before but the top and bottom were much larger. With the header and footer disabled via the new settings the top and bottom margins were the same size as when the header and footer were enabled, but there was just blank space there. I switched over to kepub and it seems to have solved my problem. With the header and footer disabled via the new settings I can tweak the margins in the font screen to achieve more or less the same setup as I had on 4.10. I haven't observed the kepub chopped text problem on 4.12. If you're really interested I can provide some screenshots, but I've already converted my library to kepub and it's working nicely ![]() The 4.12 problem with epubs may well have been my own fault. When adding books to my library I convert them all to epub and try and standardise the formatting as much as possible. Either my workflow or my kobo_extra.css may have been causing the problem. |

FW 4.12 on Kobo Glo - when reading PDFs in landscape mode, then they have messed up page turns and position of previous and next page. Next or previous page is always positioned at bottom-left corner when zoomed in. So to read you first need to scroll up to the beginning of pace, and so each time you turn the page. I downgraded to 4.9.xxxx version which works much better for pdf-s in landscape mode and zoomed-in.
