Sorry, Pilot Bob. You are right. What I was hoping to say was that the features now being talked about and the design is so nice that it is within the realm of possibility to have a machine that exceeds the Kindle 2 regarding features.

You are right. Kindle does offer "free" (you actually pay for it by buying books ONLY from them) 3G and a good store that is real class. So, I will eat that crow now. Thank you sir, may I have another?

Dear DixieGal:

I am happy that you got something that pleases you! That is the best way to go. I agree, the wait is long.

I hope that we can speed things up, but as long as you are happy all is good.

Ok, ahh, we won't call it hype then. I can’t help thinking however that if Astak ever does decide to organize a ballyhoo dept. you would probably get one of the larger offices.

RobertB, I want to ask, if we buy one of the new EZ Readers, ie with touchscreen and wifi, can we change the software to something else? Cybook, for example, if they will have same device just with another software. And vice versa, buying Cybook, can we use Astak software with it?

Love my EZ Reader!

"Basic" does not have to mean "devoid" of useful things!

Robert B

First I wanted to say how much I love my EZ Reader. I got mine when they first became available and have been reading on it ever since. It is just what I wanted and it is everything you said it would be! Thank you!

Robert, I am wondering about the switch to the other Reader software in your upcoming devices. If I do nothing, will I still be able to continue using the Mobipocket (.prc) software on my EZReader? Or will I be forced to change to the eReader software (.pdb)?

Thanks,
NeweReader

EZ Reader is made by Jinke. It runs Jinke Hanlin based firmware. It is not compatible, hardware wise, with the Cybook and therefore will not run unmodified firmware from the Cybook. I believe you are confusing this unit with the Mentor line.

Dear NeweReader:

This is a ticklish subject, thanks to Amazon. Let me just say that Mobipocket demands exclusivity. SO... if you do not load any of the new firmware upgrades from our website then nothing should change regarding what you have now. Please read between the lines here as we are trying to keep this subject under the radar for your sake and others. All new batches of EZ Reader that we are ordering will not have Mobi and will only be eReader.

I am just SO happy that you are pleased with the EZ Reader. I hope others will read your words and also realize that this is the best basic eBook Reader around and solid and dependable in every way. Have you tried the Music Zone yet? Have you tried the equalizer in it? I just love that sound. We are, by the way, updating our FAQ sheet on www.mobiebook.com. It is a good place to start as it is filled with helpful tips and insight on the EZ Reader.

Thank you,

Robert B

Hearst Publications eBook Reader

Dear All:

Just a note to let everyone know that Hearst Publishing (owners of countless newspapers) has seen the light on eBook Readers and is developing an eBook Reader of their own in 9.7 inch to specifically read their newspapers. Hearst sees all newsprint going away in the future and all will go Digital so they are getting ready. The device will be wireless but that is all I know. Hearst owns a huge part of E-Ink and that is why they are making their own device.

I hope they include pictures! My biggest complaint on Kindle magazines and newspapers is the lack of pictures, at least for the ones I've tried.

Thanks for the update. Will there still be the ability to read non-DRM Mobi eBooks? Or will all Mobi support be removed?

I hope they will leave enough panels to other manufacturers...

if you are reading RSS feeds of these newspapers, have you tried grabbing them with calibre ? one of the things that really frustrated me with mobipocket's rss feeds was no pictures, but calibre includes them. and now that calibre supports mobipocket you could easily "roll your own".

of course, if these are not rss feeds that's a different situation.

Calibre doesn't grab any of the pictures from the feeds I'm interested in. Only on one, The New Yorker, it at least grabs the cartoons.
