As the happy owner of a Delphin, let me clarify some things. Yes, you can side load apps. Some work, some don't. If they are paid apps, and depend on Google Play, you won't be able to pay for them. This, for example, causes the Smart Audiobook Player (an excellent app, btw) to only work in its "free" mode. But it does work, and does well with my Overdrive and Downpour books in side-loaded mode. I've not actually tried the Overdrive app, but I can confirm that the Downpour app didn't work when I tried it a while back. Not a big deal, since I can sideload the files and use them on the Smart AudioBook Player.

The Audible player works quite well. As does Amazon Music. (Both are downloaded from the Amazon AppStore.) I'm told Pandora and several other music apps work. Haven't tried them. Obviously, they only work in off-line mode when you're actually swimming. (WiFi in the water? Doesn't work, won't work. But the short-range Bluetooth does work.)

Expensive? Yes, a bit. But a wonderful solution none the less.

Tis the season for giving, so the following is only for rich members of MR. Both issy and myself would love to wake up Christmas morn and see a Delphin under the tree. issy's a fantastic mod and I'm a fantastic monkey. Need I say more, hint, hint

Ever since their Kickstarter campaign, I've been interested in this, but the price held me back. I'm not into swimming, instead, I prefer hiking and this device is overkill for hiking, especially at this price point. Nonetheless, I would still love to own one. I love the concept of a very small audio player that uses apps and streams content.

Do you have a chimney to go down? Will your roof support 12 full-grown reindeer? Will you have some cookies and milk waiting for me? I've got to keep my huge belly, you know. The reindeer might be a wee hungry, too--do you have any spare bales of hay that you can give them?

And make sure to have several buckets of warm water for them. Rudolph will need an extra large bucket--he's got the big head now from having all of the other reindeer boast about him because he's got that red nose to guide me to all of the houses.

Oh, and what's your full address? Including your 9-digit zip code. And if you don't have a chimney, please leave a key under the front door mat.

I'll make sure that the elves throw a free Delphin under your tree before we leave. And, yes, I am rich--how do you think that I afford all of this junk that I leave under the trees?

Thanks for this, AO and kcladyz, just used the link successfully. 2 credits at 95 cents each is a nice Xmas gift, I have a reminder to myself to cancel after my renewal on Jan 14 to avoid paying $14.95!

Do you know if it "automatically renews?" I really dislike keeping track of days when I need to do something; in this case it would be when the cheap period ends and the plan automatically renews (if, in fact, it does).

They almost always "automatically renew". They are trying to get you hooked, not to give you free books for 2 months.

edit: so put a note on your calendar, for about the day the 2nd credit will come to you. Cancel as soon as you've spent it.

I hadn't thought about that idea. Sounds like a good one.

However, a person doing that takes a chance that there won't be some kind of sale requiring credits, later on in the month, though, don't they?

I think that I remember that 'monkey keeps close tabs and cuts it real close as to when to cancel, maybe for just such reasons as that.

Maybe I can start to use calendars.

I usually cancel two days before that credit is due. If you go into your account, it'll tell you the date they're going to post your credit. It's also the date your credit card will get zapped for $15.

It's worth doing this. I have over 500 audiobooks from Audible (since 2011) and have only spent a grand total of $30.09 of my money to get them.
