Water.

I've been using one of those phone apps that figures how much water you should be drinking daily, and reminds you to drink regularly to keep you on track.

It's all been well and good, but I don't understand how anyone who drinks as much water as they're "supposed to" gets anything done in a day other than drinking and peeing.

Ouch. If this is the new normal (and who can doubt it), then you might want to consider a generator. It's a norm of Canadian life in rural Canada, and especially here on the Sunshine Coast. We heat with a pellet stove, but it does need electricity to run the auger and fan.

A "portable" generator should be enough to keep a furnace going, and handle things like allowing you to make coffee or cook breakfast. (Induction hot plates are de rigueur here.) We have a 3.5KVA Yamaha that even has push-button start, and provides clean, sine-wave, power and runs quite quietly. (OTOH, if you're dealing with pure electric heat, the problem is a bit more costly.)

Just opened a canister of Taiwanese A-Li-Son Oolong tea. It's a little lighter than the Tie Guan Yin and goes better with clover honey than buckwheat.

Wasn't that wet heavy slush godsawful?! I spent 2 hours clearing our porch, sidewalk to the car, around the car and the same for my elderly neighbor. Rewarding myself with Appalachian Mountain Brewery's Not a Double IPA. And also a heating pad.
