Kindle voyage freezing on daily bases
Hi everyone,
I just bought my first kindle, a used one in what looks perfect cosmetic condition. Everything works fine, it syncs fine, it loads everything fine. But in the few days I have had it, it has frozen at least once a day. After rebooting everything goes back to normal, until the next time... The firmware version is 5.9.7 and it does not give me the option to upgrade. Any thoughts? Thanks!! |

My Voyage is on 5.9.7 with no problems. I agree with recentros that it could possibly be a specific book. How did you load your books — side load or through Amazon? I have occasional problems. These occur mostly when I try to connect to the store and forget to turn on wifi, then do it, but it still crashes.

Thanks for your replies!
I inserter some books through, amazon, via kindle email and calibre... Just now I found the kindle stuck on the screensaver with the light on and almost all the battery gone... I guess it could be some badly formatted books, problem is I have some 60 books in it... Good luck finding the bad one I guess best option is to try reinstalling the os, I will have to look if there is any advantage or problem to update to the newer os... Well, you can probably start with deleting just the calibre loaded books and see if that fixes the problem. I assume the ones loaded directly from Amazon are OK.

I upgraded yesterday, it froze once more after that. I have not used it today, I will check it later. But it looks possible it is related to some badly formatted books.
Does anyone has bad experience with ebooks from the guttemberg project? I have quite a few from them... |

You need to do some tests to see where the problem is - with the Kindle or with the books.
Reset to factory settings, which will wipe out all the books downloaded onto it. Then just download and read one book on it, preferably one obtained from directly from Amazon. Does the problem still occur? If it does, it's the Kindle. Contact Customer Service and see what they'll do for you. If the problem goes away, only add books one at a time that you're going to read immediately for a while, to confirm that the problem's still gone. |

It looks like things are getting worse. This morning the kindle was out of battery, it was 81% when I went to sleep. I charged it again and later this afternoon it was stuck again. After rebooting it, it is caught in an never ending loop. I cannot reboot it. I will have to wait until tomorrow when the battery is dead and delete all books and start one by one...

Well, right now it looks like I cannot do anything with it... The computer does not recognize it and I only get the light to switch on when connected to power... I guess trying to put a new battery can do no wrong...

Just a follow up for the curious ones. I opened the kindle and disconnected the battery and manage to revive it. As soon as I could I restored the kindle to factory settings and left it only with the Amazon books. So far it has been almost a full day with no freezes... So it is probably a book like some of you said. In the mean time I found a fairly cheap battery replacement just in case...
