Now the second title in the series, The Star of Istanbul, is on sale for $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CIWZ7NS

Spoiler:
Quote:
An intrepid reporter boards the Lusitania in a “vivid . . . ripping good” spy thriller from the Pulitzer Prize–winning author (The Wall Street Journal).

It’s 1915, World War I is in full swing, and foreign correspondent Christopher “Kit” Marlowe Cobb is tasked with following a German intellectual and possible secret service agent traveling on the British ocean liner Lusitania. But Cobb is soon distracted from his mission by the sultry Selene Bourgani, a world-renowned silent film star who also appears to be working with German Intelligence. The more Cobb thinks he knows her, the less he really does. The secrets Selene harbors have the potential to set the whole international conflict further aflame—and they’re ignited by a German U-boat attack off the Irish coast.

From the perilous waters of the Atlantic, Cobb tails Selene first into London’s darkest alleyways, then on to the powder keg that is Istanbul. Across the war-torn stages of Europe and the Middle East, Cobb must venture deep behind enemy lines, knowing full well he may not return.

The second book in Robert Olen Butler’s Christopher Marlowe Cobb series, The Star of Istanbul “has it all: history galore, exotic foreign settings, a world-weary yet engaging protagonist, villains in abundance and a romance worthy of Bogart and Bergman” (BookPage).

The Language of Bees is the 10th in Laurie R. King's Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Titles in this series, which I've quite enjoyed, rarely drop in price in the US, so snag it if you want it!

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001NLKTJM
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-language-of-bees-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “[Laurie R.] King enriches the Sherlockian legacy.”—The Boston Globe

For Mary Russell and her husband, Sherlock Holmes, returning to the Sussex coast after seven months abroad was especially sweet. There was even a mystery to solve—the unexplained disappearance of an entire colony of bees from one of Holmes’s beloved hives.

But the anticipated sweetness of their homecoming is quickly tempered by a galling memory from the past. Mary had met Damian Adler only once before, when the surrealist painter had been charged with—and exonerated from—murder. Now the troubled young man is enlisting the Holmeses’ help again, this time in a desperate search for his missing wife and child.

Mary has often observed that there are many kinds of madness, and before this case yields its shattering solution she’ll come into dangerous contact with a fair number of them. From suicides at Stonehenge to the dark secrets of a young woman’s past on the streets of Shanghai, Mary will find herself on the trail of a killer more dangerous than any she’s ever faced—a killer Sherlock Holmes himself may be protecting for reasons near and dear to his heart.

Vendetta is the second (per SYKM) or first (blurb) in the Aurelio Zen series by Michael Dibdin. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. This is another series whose titles rarely drop in price in the US, so again, snag it if you want it.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0082XLXM6
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/vendetta-23

Spoiler:
Quote:
In Italian police inspector Aurelio Zen, Michael Dibdin has given the mystery one of its most complex and compelling protagonists: a man wearily trying to enforce the law in a society where the law is constantly being bent. In this, the first novel he appears in, Zen himself has been assigned to do some law bending. Officials in a high government ministry want him to finger someone--anyone--for the murder of an eccentric billionaire, whose corrupt dealings enriched some of the most exalted figures in Italian politics. But Oscar Burolo's murder would seem to be not just unsolvable but impossible. The magnate was killed on a heavily fortified Sardinian estate, where every room was monitored by video cameras. Those cameras captured Burolo's grisly death, but not the face of his killer. And that same killer, elusive, implacable, and deranged, may now be stalking Zen. Inexorable in its suspense, superbly atmospheric, Vendetta is further proof of Dibdin's mastery of the crime novel.

Dying for Chocolate is the 2nd in the Goldy Schulz series by Diane Mott Davidson. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00309SCS0
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/dying-for-chocolate

Spoiler:
Quote:
“A classic whodunit . . . the perfect book for food lovers.”—New York Daily News

Goldy Bear is the bright, opinionated, wildly inventive caterer whose personal life is a recipe for disaster, with bills taking a bite out of her budget and her abusive ex-husband making tasteless threats. Determined to take control, Goldy moves her business to the ritzy Aspen Meadow Country Club. Soon she’s preparing decadent dinners and posh society picnics—and enjoying the favors of Philip Miller, a handsome local shrink, and Tom Schulz, her more-than-friendly neighborhood cop. Until, that is, the dishy doctor drives his BMW into an oncoming bus. Convinced that Philip’s bizarre death was no accident, Goldy begins to sift through the dead doc’s unpalatable secrets. But this case is seasoned with unexpected danger and even more unexpected revelations—the kind that could get a caterer killed.

Aunt Dimity and the Buried Treasure is a fairly recent (2016) title in the Aunt Dimity series by Nancy Atherton. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013Q7089Q
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/aun...uried-treasure

Spoiler:
Quote:
Nancy Atherton's twenty-first cozy mystery in the beloved, Nationally Bestselling Aunt Dimity series.

While exploring the attic in her cottage near the small English village of Finch, Lori Shepherd makes an extraordinary discovery: a gleaming gold and garnet bracelet that had once belonged to Aunt Dimity. When Lori shows the garnet bracelet to Aunt Dimity, it awakens poignant memories of a doomed romance in Aunt Dimity’s youth in London after the War. Regretfully, Aunt Dimity asks Lori to do what she could not: return the bracelet to her unsuccessful suitor—setting Lori off on an adventure through London—and through history—to put a piece of Aunt Dimity’s past to rest.

In the meantime, a new family has moved to Finch. The villagers are thrilled because their new neighbors are avid metal detectorists. Metal detectors soon become all the rage in Finch and the villagers unearth a lot of rubbish (some of it quite embarrassing) before one of them stumbles upon a trinket that could hold the key to the origin of Aunt Dimity’s bracelet.

Is the bracelet a priceless and protected national treasure? Was Aunt Dimity’s lovesick suitor a common thief? If so, how will Lori break the news to Aunt Dimity? And what will she do with the bracelet? As Lori searches for answers, she discovers an unexpected link between the buried treasure in the village and the treasure buried in Aunt Dimity’s heart.

Miss Julia has promised her adoring husband, Sam, to mind her own business. What a relief! Instead of trying to figure out why that dead body was found in Miss Petty's toolshed, Miss Julia can concentrate on taking care of just-in-time newlywed Hazel Marie as she prepares for her impending due date. But then Miss Julia-who has always balanced her checkbook down to the penny-suddenly finds her checks bouncing all over town. Just this once (as she tells herself), Miss Julia starts investigating and so begin the antics that have made her one of the most beloved and irrepressible ladies-of-a-certain-age in today's fiction.

I didn't notice the earlier post about book #2, but since I love the other Dorothy Gilman books, I've snapped this one up now (#1). So, if you happen to see #2 on sale again, I'd love to have another chance at it! Thanks for this one!

I have Dorothy Gilman on my (rather long) eReaderIQ author list, since there are several of her Mrs. Pollifax series that I'd still love to get in a nice ebook version, rather than the PDF scan of an old DTB that I currently have . So if I notice #2 on sale again, I'll make sure to post it again...

This time Sheriff Joanna Brady may expect to see her maternity leave through to completion, but the world has other plans when a serial homicide case surfaces in her beloved Cochise County. Rather than staying home with her newborn and losing herself in the cold cases to be found in her father’s long unread diaries, Joanna instead finds herself overseeing a complex investigation involving multiple jurisdictions.

Filled with the beloved characters, small town charm, vivid history, intriguing mystery, and the scenic Arizona desert backdrop that have made the Joanna Brady series perennial bestsellers, this latest entry featuring the popular sheriff is sure to please J. A. Jance’s legion of fans..'

The next-most-recent in the series, Downfall (2016), has also dropped in price, this one to $1.99.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017R4JVOC

Spoiler:
Quote:
Arizona sheriff Joanna Brady returns in this outstanding new mystery set in the beautiful desert country of the Southwest.

With a baby on the way, sudden deaths in the family from which to recover, a re-election campaign looming, and a daughter heading off for college, Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady has her hands full when a puzzling new case hits her department, demanding every resource she has at her disposal.

Two women have fallen to their deaths from a small nearby peak, referred to by Bisbee locals as Geronimo. What’s the connection between these two women? Is this a case of murder/suicide or is it a double homicide? And if someone else is responsible, is it possible that the perpetrator may, even now, be on the hunt for another victim?
