What you've paid for is the book you bought, not some hypothetical future installment in the series. If you don't like that you shouldn't be buying books that are part of unfinished series.

Season 7 already went beyond Martin's timeline in A Dance with Dragons. Wikipedia (and Martin, and HBO) will tell you that it incorporated material Martin revealed to the showrunners about upcoming novels. So yes, it has passed the books. And unless you think Martin can churn out two novels before season 8 (the final season) of the HBO series airs its 6 episodes starting in April, then it (the HBO series) will also conclude generally in the same way that Martin revealed to them that A Dream of Spring would end. This is not speculation on my part. This is common knowledge. HBO will be adapting the end that Martin revealed to them (in fact, all the filming has been complete for quite some time) before the next book in the series hits the bookshelves.

Three books, three TV adaptations, and a quote from those involved that it could be some time before another season is broadcast stating, "I think they've always been quite clear that they'd never want to write one without basing it on the book. So you've got to wait." So you tell me if that TV show has passed the book series it's based on yet. Last edited by DiapDealer; 11-14-2018 at 05:23 PM. |

It's a lot like the old WOT series. People use to complain bitterly about Jordan not finishing that. I suspect that Sanderson may have done a better job finishing that than Jordan would have. Certainly the last couple of Jordan books were not terribly memorable.

I never have gotten interested in the GOT series, the books or the TV series. I really like Rothfuss and will likely buy the third book when/if it ever comes out. Butcher, as I said, churned out a bunch and likely got a bit burned out. The question is, can he rekindle the flame or does he just sort of drift away like so many authors do after 10 -20 years of writing? |

As a reader, if you don't like how long Rothfuss or Martin are taking, the most effective thing you can do is move onto other authors. Don't talk about them, recommend their books, or go to their events. Neither of them may be your b*%#, but you don't need to be theirs either.

![]() Though other than a few themes, arcs, and the character names, there was barely any adherence to the original material, in my opinion. Much like the BBC's Dirk Gently series. I enjoy the heck out of it, but I don't know why they pretend it's an adaptation of the books. it's more like a complete reimagining. |

As for the CB Strike series, I haven't heard much about it's future, I just looked on IMDB and saw three seasons, so I assumed (wrongly) that they would be beyond the books "soon". Thanks for the info. |

An interesting side-note about this: the BBC approached the publisher to negotiate for the TV rights before it was known that “Robert Galbraith” was actually Rowling. |
