I usually do a decent job of parking, but if I get out of my car and see that I have messed up I will get back in and move the car, rather than leave it to mess things up for everyone else. |

It's good you're feeling better, kcladyz.
Anal retentive, Army dense... gatekeeper. You want me to use the mismatched, ugly utensils I was given when I first came into the program? I already took them back. So what if I'm using my own utensils? I shouldn't have volunteered that information to you. Anything you could use against me, right? You seemed disappointed I volunteered 74 hours (instead of 40 hours) last month. The look of disappointment and surprise on your face... I'll never forget that. You must think I'm doing the least I could to get by. You must think little of me. You don't know who I am. You don't know what I'm capable of--that I could do circles around you when it comes to theorizing, even though you have a master's degree. You don't know what I've been through truly--what I've survived... You'll never know. I will surpass your expectations each and everytime, Army strong, Army dense ego. @Fbone - At least they knocked on the door/rang the bell and you got the package.
I had one delivery (a $3500 computer) where I or someone else waited for three days - on the first two days a card was pushed under the door, no knock, no bell push. In late afternoon of third day we watched the courier park across the street, walk over to our house with a card in his hand - as he pushed it under the door I opened it... I saved my insults until after he had carried the three boxes from his truck to the front verandah. They get paid whether they deliver the package or a card. BR |

I've met dense people who were Army veterans, Air Force veterans (my acquaintance with the emotional IQ of a spatula is an Air Force vet)... Dense people come in all shapes and sizes. My mother was Army strong and Army dense... If one wasn't strong (if one showed signs of weakness), she disliked the person right away and made it clear. My case manager's like that. He's made it clear to me what he thinks of me--how little he thinks of me. I've met people who were in the Army who were kind, open-minded, intelligent... It all has to do with training (socialization) and if one's been taken over by ego or not. Last edited by trichobezoar; 11-03-2018 at 10:05 PM. |

I was a National Merit Scholar. Top 1% in the country in SATs; had a full ride at several universities and an acceptance at two Ivies. I chose to serve because at the time, my male friends were being drafted for Viet Nam. I'd already been working in NYC for about 5 years, attending school parttime as I entered my senior year of school at 16. Given my friends were being drafted, and over the vociferous objections of my mother, I served. People who do not listen don't last very long in the military. In the time post-Viet Nam, servicemen and women who didn't make the grade were rifted--rotated out, basically as not benefitting the military. The military doesn't want dunderheads any more than any other profession. Quote:

I never said serving lowers one's IQ. I was in the service and I have a high IQ. In fact, the service (Air Force) helped save my life... My acquantance with a low emotional IQ was in Air Force intelligence!
And I was not referring, specifically, to analytical intelligence. What I meant by dense, more than anything, was being egocentric, closed-minded, unwilling (to listen to a subordinate/client, in this case), and dishonest about certain things. (My mother, on the other hand, was dishonest about everything.) It seems to me you took what I said personally... I studied sociology for a few years and was developing a sociological theory (Ph.D. level theory, according to my would-be mentor) many years ago. I know a bit about socialization in this society. I haven't attended an actual class in 17 years though, so I'm rusty... One could not listen (attentively) to subordinates, yet kiss ass when it comes to superiors. *looking over post again* I will not converse about specifics on the forum. If you wish to discuss this further via messages, that's fine. I'll do my best to address your concerns. But this is too personal to bicker about. Again, I'm sorry I offended you... It's obvious to me we're not on the same page when it comes to this subject matter and all its variables. |

Yeah, I always regret when I list my carp on eBay. I'll only use Nextdoor or Facebook Marketplace from now on.
