Another Department Z title by John Creasey...

Per the blurb (I haven't counted at SYKM), Dead or Alive is the 26th in the series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

Spoiler:
Quote:
It’s a race against time to rescue a kidnapped scientist in this suspenseful tale by an Edgar Award–winning author.

The world is under threat of destruction. As the politicians hedge their bets with atomic weapons, it seems no one is safe.

The only hope? A brilliant professor who knows how to make nations and people invulnerable to atomic attack. The only problem? Professor Julian Conway has been kidnapped by power-hungry men wishing to use his expertise for themselves.

At British intelligence’s top-secret Department Z, Gordon Craigie assigns agent Peter Ross to get the professor back: dead or alive. Complicating the case, though, is the fact that Ross is in love with two beautiful women: one of them the professor's daughter, and the other a possible key to the whole mystery . . .

Where Memories Lie is the 12th in the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series by Deborah Crombie. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0010SEM28
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/where-memories-lie

Spoiler:
Quote:
“Chilling and humane….Skillful and subtle….A deeply moving novel that transcends genre.” — Richmond Times Dispatch

A sinister mystery that leads all the way back to the Holocaust ensnares Scotland Yard detectives Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James in Where Memories Lie from award-winning “masterful novelist” (Denver Post) Deborah Crombie. A writer in the same elite class as Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes, and Anne Perry, Crombie mesmerizes with a story at once gripping and poignant that explores the dark places in the human heart, and the shadowy corners Where Memories Lie.

Lessons for Idle Tongues (Cambridge Fellows Book 10) by Charlie Cochrane

Cambridge, England, 1910.

Amateur detectives Jonty Stewart and Orlando Coppersmith seem to have nothing more taxing on their plate than locating a missing wooden cat and solving the dilemma of seating thirteen for dinner. But one of the guests brings a conundrum: a young woman has been found dead,

Because Charlie Cochrane couldn't be trusted to do any of her jobs of choice—like managing a rugby team—she writes. Her mystery novels include the Edwardian era Cambridge Fellows series, and the contemporary Lindenshaw Mysteries. Multi-published, she has titles with Carina, Riptide, Endeavour and Bold Strokes, among others.

Caution: this seems to be a new printing, because it did NOT alert me, even though I knew I already had this book. I read it 5 years ago, and bought it further back than that. So, heads up!

Murder at Cape Three Points is the third in the Inspector Darko Dawson series by Kwei Quartey. It's on sale at Kindle US for $1.99 as part of the US Kindle Daily Deal, not matched at Kobo US, at least as of now. I've not run into this author/series before but it looks pretty cool to me. I wish the first title, and not the third, were on sale, but I may give this a try anyway...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Murder-Points...dp/B00FDS43UC/

Spoiler:
Quote:
“Quartey’s mastery of the art of misdirection serves him well in his third mystery featuring Accra, Ghana, homicide detective Darko Dawson . . . A winner” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

A canoe washes up at a Ghanaian offshore oil-rig site. Inside it are the bodies of a prominent, wealthy couple, Charles and Fiona Smith-Aidoo, who have been ritualistically murdered. Pillars in their community, they are mourned by everyone, but especially by their niece Sapphire.

When months have passed since the murder and the local police have made no headway in figuring out who committed the gruesome crime, Sapphire is not happy. Det. Inspector Darko Dawson of the Accra police force is sent out to Cape Three Points to investigate. The more he learns about the case, the more convoluted it becomes. Three Points has long been occupied by traditional fishing populations—but real estate entrepreneurs and wealthy oil companies have been trying to bribe the indigenous inhabitants to move out. Soon, Dawson unearths a host of motives for murder, ranging from personal vendettas to corporate conspiracies . . .

The Monastery Murders, by E M Powell is currently £0.99 at Amazon UK.

This is the second (and last so far) in the "Stanton and Barling" series, set around 1176. The first one, The King's Justice, was a freebie earlier this year, which I gave a 5/5 when I read it. "Good characters, plot, and historical details. Recommended."
