Thirded for the double button toggle.
I’ll make due with the brightness percentage, modified mine so it just toggles at 100% since I’ll never have it set that bright. Waiting on the updates to custom screensaver hopefully coming this weekend. But the patches out now are great tweaks to my Forma. |

Received this e-reader on Wednesday (ordered from bol.com, due on Tuesday, but the mail delivery was delayed). Pretty device, but the lighting on the one side is too distracting. I read mainly in the dark, and it's very noticeable. I'm also not a fan of the sleep/power button. It shouldn't take this much effort to wake up an e-reader.
I bought this device mainly because I want to read manga, and like the larger screen for that. Guess I'll return the Forma, stick with my paperwhite, maybe upgrade to the new PW, and then wait for a new model of a Kindle with a larger screen to replace this Kobo Forma. |

I've found that by using the CURB method, I can reduce the distraction caused by the imperfection along the button side. In my case the distraction is mostly the white streak down the button side, the dark, light, dark pattern. (Others I understand may see a different pattern, so this may not work for you.)
CURB, of course, means a Corrective Unsightly Rubber Band. Patented 1845! It's not much consolation, but it has the charm of being simple, temporary, non-invasive and easily reversible if it doesn't work for you. I'm liking the Forma so much, I'm probably going to keep it rather than get a refund, but only because CURB works for me and I have money to burn, sorta. ![]() It only takes covering a few millimeters with the rubber band to do the trick for me. Straight down from the pointy corner of the bookmark, or thereabouts. Try a black one if you're worried what people may say and think about you. ![]() (Unknown yet is whether it the band location might potentially interfere with auto sleep mechanism of a device cover.) |

Hi, can anyone tell me if the issues they had with comfortlight on the Aura One was fixed on the Forma?

I returned my Kobo Forma to Walmart today. The USB port was very unreliable. Sometimes connecting to my computer and sometimes not. It was somewhat of a crapshoot no matter what cable I tried. The combination of dodgy screen and flakey USB port convinced me to return it. I may try again in a few months as I very much liked it otherwise.

I've now been reading on the Forma for a while and I really like it:
* it is light: 197 g compared to 230 g for the One, and 207 g for the 6.8" H2o2; since the Clara is so slippery, I use it with its stand-up case which makes it 267 g * it is versatile: when reading I change hands with no hassle, and alternate between buttons and tap/slide on the screen * the buttons are very good for skimming through dictionaries screens and book lists * I can at long last read those PDFs I'd put aside, and I've even gone back to the non cropped version for some of them. I don't know why it is better than it felt on the One (I can't compare since mine is dead) since it is hardly bigger, and whether it is due to a better screen and/or a better F/W. In very dim ambient light I notice the band along the leds, but mostly I forget it when I read. It is somewhat broader than the very thin and short light bleed on my Clara which is much less noticeable than some photos I've seen. It doesn't feel fragile, and I've used it on the go (in my handbag, a different pocket from keys) |

So far, my experiments lead me to believe that there's no problem with the Forma's port, but there may well be a problem with the supplied cord, at the standard USB end of the cord (not the other end which has the micro-usb reversible end which goes into the Forma). Forgive me if I'm not using the correct terms of art here. In short I've discovered that if the standard USB plug is inserted into the computer USB port, or a charger port, imperfectly, then no connection is made. But if you wiggle it a bit, bingo! If you wiggle it again, no joy! This behavior is consistent across a number of different ports I've tried.) I can say this is the first time in my life I've ever had to wiggle a USB cord to get a device to work. But I'm thankful that in my case it only seems to be a cord issue. But if as you say, you're having no consistency with any cords, then that's a major issue and I'd return it too. Edit. Just to me more precise, the wiggle needed is not at the cord itself, but right at the USB plug, where it seems capable of too much um wiggle room, left and right motion, when fully inserted (in a horizontally oriented usb port).
