Jane and the Man of the Cloth is the second in the Jane Austen Mystery series by Stephanie Barron. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Jane-Man-Clot...dp/B001RKFU52/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/jan...n-of-the-cloth

Spoiler:
Quote:
For everyone who loves Jane Austen . . . the second tantalizing mystery in a new series that transforms the beloved author into a dazzling sleuth!

Jane and her family are looking forward to a peaceful holiday in the seaside village of Lyme Regis. Yet on the outskirts of town an overturned carriage forces the shaken travelers to take refuge at a nearby manor house. And it is there that Jane meets the darkly forbidding yet strangely attractive Mr. Geoffrey Sidmouth. What murky secrets does the brooding Mr. Sidmouth seek to hide? Jane suspects the worst—but her attention is swiftly diverted when a man is discovered hanged from a makeshift gibbet by the sea. The worthies of Lyme are certain his death is the work of “the Reverend,” the ringleader of the midnight smuggling trade whose identity is the town's paramount mystery. Now, it falls to Jane to entrap and expose the notorious Reverend . . . even if the evidence points to the last person on earth she wants to suspect . . . a man who already may have won her heart.

And one more batch of Lanny Budd titles by Upton Sinclair on sale, at Kindle US only, not Kobo this time...

With this batch, I think all of the titles in the series have now been on sale for $2.99 or less, most for $1.99, at some point. These have been on sale for a few hours, so, in the way of blink-and-you-miss-it Open Road sales, they may not be on sale much longer. But Open Road titles go on sale a lot, in the US at least, so just keep checking (or use eReaderIQ) if you have missed a title you want.

link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?se...price-asc-rank

I have just started the first one in the series, World's End, and although not very far along, am enjoying it so far. (World's End is the only one on sale right now at Kobo, for $1.99 - couponable/VIPable.) I also hadn't realized, until I read it in a blurb, that Dragon's Teeth, the third title in the series, had won a Pulitzer in 1943.

Glass Houses has now dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Per SYKM, Houses won a 2017 Agatha Award for Best Novel, and like almost all the titles in this series, was nominated for a bunch of other awards too. This is the most recent (2017) in Penny's Inspector Gamache series, at least until the newest one comes out in November...

(@Loosheesh - not sure if you're still waiting for a better price - if you are, here it is .

The Devil's Novice is the 8th in the awesome IMO Brother Cadfael series by Ellis Peters. It has dropped to $2.99 as part of today's US Kindle Daily Deal, matched (and coupon/VIPable) at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Devils-Novice...dp/B00LUZNVYQ/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-devil-s-novice-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
From the Edgar Award–winning author: When a troubled novice is blamed for a priest’s disappearance, Brother Cadfael seeks to save his soul—and his life.

Outside the pale of the Abbey of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, in September of 1140, a priestly emissary for King Stephen has been reported missing. But inside the pale, what troubles Brother Cadfael is a proud, secretive nineteen-year-old novice.

Brother Cadfael has never seen two men more estranged than the Lord of Aspley and Meriet, the son he coldly delivers to the abbey to begin a religious vocation. Meriet, meek by day, is so racked by dreams at night that his howls earn him the nickname “the Devil’s Novice.” Shunned and feared, Meriet is soon linked to the missing priestly emissary’s dreadful fate. Only Brother Cadfael believes in Meriet’s innocence, and only the good sleuth can uncover the truth before a boy’s pure passion, not evil intent, leads a novice to the noose.

Something's Cooking is the first in the Angie Amalfi series by Joanne Pence. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Somethings-Co...dp/B006FNXI4G/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The heat is on

Life's a banquet for Angelina Amalfi—a gourmet chef and food writer with enough sass and spunk for two. But things start to go really bad really fast when the man who's been contributing unusual recipes to her column is discovered dead and Angie suddenly finds herself being stalked by a killer whose appetite was merely whetted by the first deadly course. On the plus side, Paavo Smith, the homicide cop assigned to the case, is one delectable dish. But when more people start to fall all around her like ruined soufflés, ever-resourceful Angie realizes she'll have to cook up a survival scheme quick before her personal goose gets cooked. This case may be too hot to handle and the stakes are high, for she's about to take on deadly arms smugglers and lethal food fanatics. But if anyone can keep her cool, Angie can.

The same stories are also collected across 8 books. They go on sale fairly often, but they still aren't as cheap as getting them all in a single book.

The Fateful Day is the 15th in the Libertus series by Rosemary Rowe. It has dropped to $3.73 at Kindle US. This price is a bit higher than I usually post, but I really like this series, and this is a fairly recent title (third from the end), so I'm going ahead and posting. Not matched at Kobo US, at least as of now.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Fateful-Day-m...dp/B00P6NG7Y4/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A compelling new mystery for Libertus, set against the backdrop of the Roman Empire in turmoil and fighting for its
survival . . .

Libertus is passing the villa of his patron, Marcus Septimus Aurelius, when he sees an elaborate travelling carriage which has pulled up outside and is now blocking the road. Recognising that this may be an important visitor, Libertus approaches the carriage, intending to explain that Marcus is away, gone to Rome to visit his old friend Pertinax, who has recently been installed as Emperor. However, for his efforts, Libertus instead receives a torrent of abuse and the carriage-driver almost runs him down as he departs.

Libertus is badly shaken, but goes back to the villa the next day to find out why there was no gate-keeper in evidence to deal with the stranger. There he finds a gruesome discovery: the man is dead and hanging in his hut, and none of the other house-slaves are to be found. Worse things are to follow as news arrives from Rome which will turn the lives, not only of Libertus and his family, but the whole Empire upside down . . .

I was posting a non-fiction book by Susanne Alleyn in the non-fiction thread, but noticed/was reminded in the process that the first book in Alleyn's Aristide Ravel series, The Cavalier of the Apocalypse, which I've quite liked, is a long-term freebie. Searching this thread, it hasn't been posted in at least 22 months, so I thought I'd give it another little bump.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Cavalier-Apoc...dp/B00PLUBJ36/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...e-apocalypse-1
Smashwords (many formats, DRM free): https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/541311

Spoiler:
Quote:
The first Aristide Ravel mystery:

In the icy winter of 1786, in the final years before the French Revolution, hunger, cold, and seething frustration with the iron grip of France’s absolute monarchy drive poor and rich alike to outright defiance. Slums, fashionable cafés, and even aristocratic mansions echo with discontent and the first warning signals of the approaching turmoil of 1789.

Paris’s cemeteries are foul and disease-ridden, but no one, including penniless writer Aristide Ravel, expects to find a man with his throat cut lying dead in a churchyard, surrounded by strange Masonic symbols. Already suspected of subversive activities, Ravel must now clear his name of murder. His search for answers amid the city’s literary and intellectual demimonde—with the aid of friends who may not be all that they seem—leads him into a tangle of conspiracy, secret societies, royal scandal, and imminent revolution, which grows only more complex when the corpse disappears . . .

P.S. If you're interested in Alleyn's free non-fiction book, it's The Weirder Side Of Paris: A Guide to 101 Bizarre, Bloodstained, or Macabre Sights, From the Merely Eccentric to the Downright Ghoulish, which looks to be pretty much what the title says. A Psalm for Falconer is the fourth in the William Falconer historical series by Ian Morson. I started reading this series back when I had periodic business trips to the UK and would pick up pounds (or kilos) of historical mysteries in DTB to haul home, mostly titles that were unavailable or really hard to find in the US. E-books are so much easier , but Morson's titles only very very rarely go on sale, so I'm happy to see this one drop to $2.48 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0087FDD54

Spoiler:
Quote:
Regent Master William Falconer leaves 13th Century Oxford in order to travel to the remote Conishead Priory on Lancaster Bay with the intention of studying the scientific manuscripts in the Priory Library. Before leaving Oxford a nun is discovered murdered at nearby Godstow Abbey and upon arrival at Conishead he discovers a Priory full of intrigue and secrets accumulating in the sands of the bay giving up after 15 years the body of a missing monk. Falconer’s stamina is sorely tested as he considers murders both old and new.
