By any chance, have you seen a comparison between the 'simple' Kobo version and the 'hardware-designed' Kindle version? I'd be interested to know what the actual differences are.

The amber-on-black of my Kobo ClaraHD is useful when reading in the dark, just before sleep, but amber-on-black on my Samsung phone is far better due to black being absolutely black and no ghosting. I suppose the Oasis must be somewhere in-between (but probably closer to the Kobo than the Samsung).

Pre-ordered from Indigo Chapters late last night. Walmart wasn't up yet, and I've had good previous experience with Indigo. Works out a little cheaper too, thanks to the exchange rate. I was charged $246.34 USD including shipping. They say delivery by Nov. 12 to me in the US, but they always deliver way sooner than their estimates.

If the kobo clara hd has an out of the box kobo provided setting to have a black background, then for all I know kobo is using the same or similar technology as amazon and might well look just as good. The Oasis black isn't that black, but it is nearly ghosting free.

The Oasis has the least e-ink ghosting I have seen and its black background is OKish. Just about any other display technology is going to have better solid black. If your samsung phone is OLED, nothing else's black background is going to be anywhere near it unless it is also OLED.

Unfortunately, ATM it's only got half of an out-of-the-box setting. It has a config file option you can set with a one-off manual edit, but hasn't got a toggle button to switch it on/off. I keep hoping each new firmware will add the button, but so far no luck. Maybe next time ...

If it helps, when I go to Walmart and search for 'kobo' it lists the Aura 2 and the H2O2, but the top third of the screen is a banner ad for the Forma.

I assume kobo doesn't think it's ready for prime time.

If anyone has made something like KUAL for kobo, it should be easy for users to cobble up their own customization buttons.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the Kobo Nightmode hack works well enough on a ClaraHD (but not the KA1) and you can toggle on/off with that.

I just wish that Kobo would finish what they started so long ago. There's getting to be a build-up of "half-options".

And I'm still getting this banner page (in Pale Moon, Firefox and Vivaldi, which is a Chrome clone). It must be a Linux thing, or maybe my ad blockers?
