Then I read: Arabella by Georgette Heyer. Great fun in a regency romance. And I can't resist just reading another, even though I only have another twenty or so left to read from Georgette Heyer, so starting Grand Sophy. |

Not an author I've read. I had it in my mind that she only wrote romance novels, a genre which isn't my cup of tea. Not so?

Her Regencies are certainly romance novels, but on a higher plain than 50 Shades! They're quite witty, very well researched, and really delightful. She also wrote some 1930's era mysteries, but I found them less appealing. I would add that I am not a romance reader. At all. But I find the Heyer Regencies appeal to me in the same way that Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster books do.

Just finished The Fellowship fo the Ring (Audio) by J. R. R. Tolkien narrated by Rob Inglis.
I'm bout to pull the trigger on The Two Towers, but deciding whether I should just pay the $30 (at Amazon, Kobo wants $35) or take advantage of the Audible trial deal... I'll probably do the latter, though it does mean I have one book on Kobo and the other through Audible. Not really even sure what the Audible thing would do for me anyway. |

Like many celebrity autobiographies, it can at times devolve into an indecipherable litany of Bobs, Georges, Mikes, Johns and Davids. But since it seems that Eric has actually met just about everybody on the planet, this isn't all that surprising. ![]() Still ... there a reason a don't read a lot of celebrity biographies; and that's because they all tend to be one big run-on who's who of anecdotes. This one's no different in that regard. His longtime friendship with George Harrison is one area where Idle's "human" side really shines through, though. Finished Believe Me: A Memoir of Love, Death, and Jazz Chickens by Eddie Izzard. Starting Artificial Condition-- The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells.
I pulled the trigger on Audible. Now all I have to do is figure out how to convert to .mp3 so I can listen to it in the car. |

Just finished Double Whammy by Carl Hiaasen and it was a very pleasant read. This is the first one of his I’ve read so have plenty to look forward to.
And have just started Holy Ghost by John Sandford after attending a book signing by him over the weekend. Place was packed with Sandford fans all of whom, including me, have read all his other books. |

I primarily know him from his standup work, but he’s had a fair number of US movie roles. (My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Treasure Island spring to mind, not to mention his voice work.) I remember just enough high school French to be impressed by his ability to construct and deliver a comedy set in multiple languages.

I know of Izzard because he was a huge Python fan (Cleese once referred to him as "The Lost Python").
Plus there's a ridiculous amount of British Television (old and new) available in the States these days, what with streaming services and such. |

I saw one of Izzard's early standup shows, and I saw him in various movies and television shows (The Riches was slightly jarring at first because that was the first time saw him performing in "boy-mode". I completely forgot he was in Mystery Men until it was mentioned in the book.
As for the book, it was not the most compelling read, but enjoyable, and while he did not go out of his way to be funny, one can see his comic style throughout, so it was not entirely ghost-written, at least. The most amazing thing to me, I think, is that he ran so many marathons, one right after the other. I have done 5k and 10k runs, but I certainly haven't done more than one in a year, LOL. |
