I've see many Dracula/Vampire movies in my 70 years so I thought why not read the original Bram Stoker "Dracula" and try and figure out which film follows the book the best!! I about 20% Thru the book and enjoying it!!
What's your Halloween read? David
Last year I listened to a full cast, unabridged recording of Dracula. I have The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Turn of the Screw lined up for my commute this year. All re-reads, but still fun for the holiday mood.

Reading The Fantasies of Robert A. Heinlein, a good collection of stories including Waldo, They, All You Zombies, They Built a Crooked House and Magic, Inc. among others.

How does the joke go? The fantasies of RAH are that all women want to have sex with him and that all men want to listen to him.

Over the last week I read the final two books in Lisa Shearin's "Raine Benares" series, Treasure & Treason and Ruins & Revenge. I enjoyed them, though I missed having Raine's point of view in these last two books. The action shifted to another character, and while he wasn't as witty and snarky as Raine, it was good to follow him. I liked coming back to the world and learning a little more about it in the midst of another adventure.

I made a more detailed list over in the “Ebook Addicts” thread, but this year, October is my “catch up on Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant” month. I have two volumes each of her InCryptid, Wayward Children, and killer mermaid series on tap, and if I finish with those, I may start in on her October Daye series.

Current progress: InCryptid 7 finished, mermaid novella finished, 30% through mermaid novel (and thoroughly enjoying it; she really does her research!).

After I finish this memoir, I am looking forward to starting the Murdertbot series, which seems apropos.

...my goodness, I am pulling out quite the collection of French words today.

I'm currently re-reading Grafton's alphabet series. I got up to about M as they were released in my teens and early 20s, now looking to catch up. Also trying to read a Hindi translation of Kipling's Jungle Book - the recent movie was unwatchable in English, awesome in the Hindi dub, so far the translation feels fun and true to the original.

I am also on the prowl for modern writers with a Wodehousian feel. Light, silly fun that focuses on just playing with language for the intrinsic pleasure of such silliness. Someithng, iow, that leaves one feeling distinctly gruntled

I am reading Company of Liars. It is very good. It is about a disreputable group of travelers, all with secrets, trying to outrun the Black Death and telling tall tales. There are subtle fantasy elements.

Recently finished Solo: A Star Wars Story by Mur Lafferty. It has some amusing/redeeming moments, and I think Lafferty does an admirable job with what she's been given (she's the primary reason I gave the book a shot - I'm not a huge Star Wars fan truth be told), but make no mistake about it: this entire story is basically the delivery vehicle for a canon "explanation" behind the now famous "made the Kessel run in 12 parsecs" goof from the original movie. It would have been much easier to just admit the mistake in my opinion.

Lando's cape fetish and "product" addiction is great fun, though. I've not seen the film, but I could practically see Donald Glover performing the part in my head.

I liked some things; and didn't really dislike anything. So that's on the positive side of "meh" for an overall rating (based on my personal and highly subjective scale).

Now starting Eric Idle's sortabiographical Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

This appeals to me enormously. Not that I have any problem reading the Master; I've currently got a long-term goal of reading all his works (more-or-less) in order and looking at GR, I see I'm up to 43.

This is going to tease at my brain and I like it so much I'm going to steal it for a thread of its own.

I like Mur... but I was never really interested in Han Solo (nor Lando for that matter) and only watched the movie for Dngrswife's sake.

I was eyeballing that Idle book, though. Do tell us how it reads.

I'm 26% through The Lying Game by Ruth Ware. Dropped the science fiction book I was reading. I'm just really into mystery/suspense now I guess. Easy to read and they're not too long. I have a ton of them on my Kobo too.

In order? Wow, that's a Labyrinthine challenge. Not so much for the number of books (although there are so many), but because of the plethora of publishings. How did you actually work out the order, and may I have the list?

I use this simple checklist, which seems to cover it. I also refer to the Wikipedia bibliography to help resolve issues with the earlier books, where books have been rewritten or partially incorporated into others. With some of those, I read the earliest version and plan to circle back to the others eventually, after more time has elapsed.

Getting into Halloween reading now. Re-reading the first two Jason Crane series books with intent to read the third one for the first time by Halloween.
