Cheers. I'm currently amazed at what people there have been able to come up with on their own!

I notice the Voyage is in the lineup in Canada? (Although it says "Currently Unavailable".)
This might be due to Canadian government protection of a Canadian company. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised.

As far as US pricing, I was hoping for something a little more competitive. But $10 more for a larger screen, night light, and what looks to me like a more comfortable design isn't bad. Obviously ymmv.

Are you saying that the Government of Canada is placing tariffs on Amazon products to protect Kobo? You do realise that Kobo is owned by Rakutan, a Japanese company.

Just because you find it to be expensive and not worth it doesn't make your opinion a given for the rest of human kind.

I bought my KA1 exactly two years ago, which boils its costs down to 10€ per month. As ebooks are cheaper than paper books I still save a lot of money on books compared to my pre-reader spending AND have a better reading experience.

I also use the library heavily since I got an ereader. When it meant going to the library to borrow books I never did that, because I always ended up being late and paying fines. I do read two to three books per week and used to spend between 200€ and 400€ per month on books. Now I am down to maybe 20€ monthly.

I'd gladly spend 500€ every two years on a new ereader if they'd cost as much and still be a happy money saving camper.
For me it is a matter of perspective. Ereaders are one of my few indulgences. I buy every new Kobo and Kindle as soon as they hit the market.

My car is 14 years old and often stalls without warning, providing my friends with great amusement. But I could care less, I am not a car guy, I'm a book guy.

The delicious anticipation I feel waiting to finally get my hands on a new Ereader is more viseral than a ride in a fancy car. Reading a great book on that Ereader is way more fun to me than the new car smell.

So, I don't believe the Kobo Forma is over priced at all. I will receive way more than $280 worth of enjoyment from it, making it a bargain.

To each his, or her, own perspective on cost and value.

Right. Some people buy Suzukis, others buy Teslas, and neither should be shamed for their preference.

interesting perspective. i don't need multiple devices that pretty much do the same thing or a bit less or a bit more or something slightly different.

obviously for some bigger is better for me less is more.

if and when and i know it's a big if Kobo decide to do a similar model to the Kindle Voyage with the same dimensions and page turn buttons on both sides then i'm in.

completely agree with each to their own.

best wishes koboy

But, the screen of the Forma is the plastic backed screen. So it won't get damaged the same way the glass backed screen can. Plus, the screen is 8" and not 7". So I do think the increase in cost is from the screen.

it will be interesting to see what people think of the plastic backed screen. if it cuts down on breakages then personally i believe it's a good thing.

time will tell it always does.

Of course it will cut down on screen breaks. And it will be lighter because of plastic instead of glass.

Yes, there is only 3g difference in the 8" Kobo vs. the 7" Kindle, 197 vs 194.

The premium price on the Oasis would have to be the result of a tariff selectively applied to it as other electronics are competitively priced with U.S. prices once the exchange rate is factored in. This makes no sense.

Pure speculation on my part as to why Amazon wouldn't be more competitive there. Looking now I see the Paperwhite doesn't have a higher price. So I may be completely off-base with my guess. It is merely my "south of the border" impression that Canada is protective of their own. I'm not sure of another Canada based company to compare.
