but seriously. dg's husband is right to worry, of course, but why not propose you have your mini meet-up in a public place like a café or restaurant ? that way, even if you *are* a psycho-killer, probably you won't dare to try anything, with all those potential witnesses around.
I suggested that as an option via PM ... but I haven't heard back yet. I gather he was rather upset that she would give out any private information to someone she met on the net .... and, of course he's right.

This reminds me a lot of how I fell in with my current group of cat-crazy internet friends. We started by just posting on the net, then I invited one of the members from Indiana to come stay with me in San Diego (she really needed a vacation). That went so well that all of us started meeting up whenever possible.

I think that because Mr. DG hasn't had a lot of experience with these particular types of forums, he doesn't realize that it's not much in the way of a great spot for online predators to hang out.

Which reminds me of something funny. Back when I used to post a lot more to the cat chat room, we did a lot of role playing (pretending to actually BE our cats and having wild adventures ... don't knock it ... it's fun). Anyway, there were those of us who were older, and then we did have one member who was about 13 at the time.

So, we're are all chatting away about stuff one day, and in comes someone we don't know and "he" starts trying to figure out how old everyone is, and asking if there are any virgins in the room ....typical predator stuff.

And, immediately, all of us went into cat alter-ego mode. That meant that I was now a 12 year old black "male" who's mommy had cut his balls off ... and I answered all questions in character.

This creep got so freaked out, he just plain fled!! (And, I hope the "door" slammed him in the butt on his way out.) Then we all told our younger member that this was the sort of person that she should avoid at all costs, and that if anyone like that bothered her online, she should just come and get one of us and we would rip his throat out.

Ahhhh .... good times.

Meeting at a restaurant sounds good.

I remember being a bit concerned about my mom getting together with friends from her opera email list in NYC at first. But that seems to have turned out very well. Now she has friends all over the world that she has actually seen face-to-face at least once.

Hm... this reminds me that it would be very nice to have a New England Meetup. Maybe in late May. The semester will be over, and Boston is very nice that time of year.

Makes me wish I had found my new car in the Boston area. Oh well.

Well, "crazy cat lady", lawyer, Texan (by residency)...all the signs are there. I think dg's hubby needs to be part of an email round with you and dg - show that you're mostly right in the head (from the perspective of "harm to innocent others", that is ).

I'll vouch for you, and so will Adrian, and Brian Jr, so if dg gets us his email address I'll get them both to send emails (dg can translate). Also, my belly-button lint says it'll even apparate in dg's and her hubby's presence to confirm your non-psychokillerishness. We can even get the Ministry to sign a proclamation on SHUM-skin parchment, officially declaring your reliability.

That'll work, surely.

I think there's a couple of car-yards somewhere over Noosaville way. Pop down and we'll go have a quick look (before drinks).

I feel so bad, my stepdad lost his Kindle 1 today. We got it for him as a birthday present last year. I guess he set it down at the roller rink (took my brother) and it disappeared. No one turned it in. So presumably someone stole it.

Sooo if anyone sees one on ebay with Slash's autiobiography on it...let me know.

All right ... which one of you bozos outed me?? Come on, I know it had to be one of you!!

Fess up!

Rats .... I did so want to meet DG.

Who knew that all those bodies rotting under the floorboards would come back to haunt me in this way?? (Yes, I know, I don't HAVE any floorboards .... work with me here people!!)
Great, now the whole world knows my husband over-reacted the way only some people can Its not like I invited Marc or anything, THAT I could understand....'sob.

Realize he doesn't read, uses the computer only for games and searching Amazon, and is generally housebound.

He is very overprotective, and doesn't know you guys like I do. Hell, he doesn't know you at all.

I am so embarrassed I doubt I could look RM in the face if I did see her.

Hell, I can't even look YOU guys in the face........

Eh ... read all the posts, DG. You'll see I actually agree with your hubby's position in this regard. I don't really consider it an over-reaction.

Keep in mind that one of my ex-boyfriends was a special agent at NCIS, and he not only never read, he seldom used the computer except to hunt down online predators. So, he had a serious hissy fit when I invited one of my online friends to stay with me.

I did it anyway, but we weren't married, so he wasn't in a position of authority in my household.

I so want to come to Australia!! I would be there in a heartbeat if I could.

Yes, Marian was a beautiful cat. I was looking through old photos tonight and realized that I took an awful lot of her, and for good reason. She was very photogenic.

Oh, yes .... that's what DG and I need to make the meetup complete, a couple of crazy Ozzies and an angry gibbon.

"Reacted", not "over-reacted". As Ricky says, it's understandable, and anyone "overprotective" of you has our vote.

(Me and a mate once crossed into the US from Vancouver, and the American friend we were with, when asked how she knew us, instinctively knew that "I met them on the internet" was NOT the right answer for the crossing guard.

Because I was going to be so close to DG (driving through Phoenix), we thought it would be fun to have a mini-meetup. However, her husband is (very reasonably, I think) worried that people you meet on the internet are not always what they seem to be .... and so he's sort of put the kibosh on that idea.
Shame - but seemingly true.... especially for us youngsters who know no better ....

And you wonder why Mr DG is worried?

(I love editing quotes to mislead. Should I try for a career in Journalism or Politics do you think.)

I'm glad Mr DG is caring, and hope this hasn't caused any problems.
