Apparently the checkout system is only adding one coupon at at time--I had two expiring $5 coupons, and it would apply only one to the purchase. CS replaced them with a single $10 coupon, which would have worked, but since they set the expiration for a year from now, I ended up deciding to hold on to the coupon till I find something better.

That's another issue with Audible, the way you get such disparate responses from CS. Sometimes you hit the jackpot and sometimes you get stonewalled. In any case, I resent having to "earn" my promotions by investing time into getting them.

I remembered that you had the same issue, but not that they gave you an extra coupon, or I might have asked for it in the chat. But, frankly, I was happy with the expiration date change--I was ordering a mediocre book just so as not to lose the coupon balance; this way, I can wait for some sale or daily deal or Whispersync price that appeals.

When I gave feedback, I did complain that Audible should have resolved the underlying issue since I knew I wasn't the first person who'd had trouble with the way the coupon was applied, and blasted them for their piecemeal approach.

It looks like the answer to that is a resounding YES.

From the FAQ's:

Can I still listen to Audio Shows for free while my membership is on hold?
No. While your membership is on hold, you will not have free access to Audio Shows. When you resume your membership, you will again have free access to Audio Shows.

And:

Are Audio Shows mine to keep forever?
Audible members can enjoy unlimited listening to Audio Shows as part of their membership benefits. If you cancel your membership you'll no longer be able to listen to Audio Shows for free, but will still be able to purchase a series or individual episodes for a one-off payment.

With those two comments, I'd say currently active paying membership only, though it doesn't specifically spell that out in so many words. (Good thing I make DRM-Free backups!)
