Thanks. I checked the box for "Background activity" for Smart Rotate, and it now works with the Kindle app. I did the same thing for Hacker's Keyboard, and it is now working too.

In the "Application startup management" section, there are two check boxes at the top, and the text for these overlap. The second clearly says "Background activity", but the last word of the first one is not so clear. Enlarging it as much as I can, it looks like it says "Boot from boot", though that doesn't make sense. Do you know what it says and what this first check box is for?

I don't know what it says but it is whitelist for autorun. Sometimes apps have autostart option and ticking this will allow them starting on boot.

Yes. Button Savior starts on boot for me when I tick "boot on boot".

Out of curiosity, I tried to root the Likebook Mars with Kingroot. Made several attempts; no success.

For root you can try something what utilize USB cable for rooting, it will have more success probability.

Can you suspend the device and then wake it up later to continue reading where you left off, with no power drain ?

I remember my onyx boox used to power down automatically after a few minutes so then I had to wait for it to boot and then open the app to continue reading.

default is 120 min
I turn it off once and got 50% drain in the morning

Weirdly, the usual Aliexpress mobile discount doesn't apply to this. Contacted the seller and he or she said Google play is already set to go on the device. The only remaining nagging question is whether Libby works. I have an Onyxboox C67ML Carta 2 and running Overdrive is like pulling teeth.

I want a mobile ebook and audiobook reader that can borrow from my libraries. If Libby works, I'll literally buy it within this week. Having a nicer nightlight and being able to use a later version of Pocketcasts is a bonus.

I emailed the Amazon seller about the Play store. Initially, he requested that I send it to them to "fix" it but I told him that I would rather not and asked for instructions to fix it myself. He replied that he would ask the dev team and get back to me. I haven't heard back yet but I'll update once I do.

On another note, has anyone found a case that fits that allows you to prop the device up? Only thing I miss about my Kindle Oasis is the origami cover.

So finally we achieved the point where we can say we have a tablet with eInk??

I thought it since I read the post of Johan Cat saying it is not free as a usuall android device. Which is the opinion of the rest of the users?

I dont have (at th moment) this ereader, but AFAIK the only feature it lacks to be totally compared to a tablet is the absence of the location option. Google play it will be develop for sure

With Play Store & all, I think we're dealing with two sets of firmware - a Chinese version and an international one. The international one lacks Play Store so far, though we've been promised an update this month that will include Play Store.

One thing that could be tried in the meantime: change your language to Chinese, see if you get the Play Store update, and then change back to English! I'll wait, but it could be worth a try.

Some of what Johann Cat says, I see in my device. With other things, I wonder if he had a defective device. I have not yet tried an alternate launcher. That's on my to-do list.

I'm not in any real rush to get the Play Store as I have all of my apps sideloaded and working OK for now. It will be nice to be able to get updates to those apps. Also, some of the apps I have paid for, I am having to use the free versions until the Play Store is added.

Same here, actually. So far, even my paid apps are working fine on the Mars, without Play Store. (I don't know how long my good fortune will last!) The only reason for me to have Play Store is to make sure my paid apps keep working and that all my apps get updated as needed.

I'd love to see the auto-refresh bug on third party apps get fixed. It's not that bad, in that it doesn't make text hard to read, but it's there.

The case that comes with it works for propping it up in a portrait position. I added a Velcro strap to mine. This is mainly for holding it better, but having it also allows the case to be propped up in a landscape position without the covers sliding apart.

Overdrive & installed works even tho I have not borrowed books yet. The 1st update, on the 1st power up, did not have a decent rendering of the colors which made the library web page less than readable; the recent 2nd update made the library site colors readable & usable.

Libby is by Overdrive & probably work on the Mars. Evidently, Libby is integrated with Overdrive regarding one's profile & "knows" what has been borrowed or not as a Libby borrowed book showed up in Overdrive, nagging about expired book included. I installed Libby & Overdrive using my library card number id.
