Well, I just finished Divided Allegiance and given the way that ended Oath of Gold is up next... and soon.

This also completed my yearly page goal. I am WAY ahead of where I normally read and have already read more than my yearly average this year. My goal was actually above my yearly average although not quite to my previous high. Interesting year.

Thanks for the warning but I finished book 2 about 10 minutes after you posted this. It was painful to read but the prelude to the first book gives hope.

Book 3 should be much more enjoyable. Next!

Finished up Daphne du Maurier's The House on the Strand for the October New Leaf Book Club.

I have always enjoyed du Maurier, and this was no exception.

I am currently reading Claire North's latest novel, 84K, and finding it hard work. I know that we don't speak in complete and grammatically correct sentences, but it gets rather tiring to read it.

Time goes a little peculiar
when you're not feeling so
so sometimes you wake and you remember that you will be an old, old man and that the one you love will die and you can't work out
if they die
or you first
which would be more scary?

You sure got that right. I fell asleep halfway through that sentence you quoted. Initially I don't know if it actually was a sentence ... I was out cold and snoring before running into any punctuation that might have confirmed that. But I persevered, and after a nap I made it through the entire quote. It ended with a question mark. So that was supposed to be a question? Authors like this are definitely not my cup of tea. I wouldn't have made it through the first page of a book like that before throwing it away.

Luckily, the whole book is held together by a narration which makes more sense, but there's quite a bit of that sort of stuff.

Finished The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester. I weathered the unpleasantness, and overall the book went well.

Now I am reading Persuader by Lee Child, another Jack Reacher Book.

Finished Oath of Gold and the Deed of Paksenarrion. Great books, hard to take at points, but a great story.

Elizabeth Moon is definitely a new favorite of mine after reading Vatta's War last month and then this.

Indeed. And there are still a bunch of them you haven't gotten to, so that should keep you from being bored for a while.

I think Divided Allegiance is the only one of the trilogy that I was less enthusiastic about. I did not like the whole second half much.

I finished Strange Practuce by Vivian Shaw. I didn’t like it all that much. Great idea for a character. A doctor who treats vampires and demons, etc..i liked the characters so I kept reading, but I didn’t really like the way the story was told. The main character just didn’t get into a lot of action cause she was busy treating her patients and getting info about the mystery from them.

Next I’m going to read The Woman Next Door by Cass Green which is hopefully a good suspense novel. I seem to enjoy these more than fantasy/sci fi lately.

Interesting story from 1969. Many of his high tech elements have become commonplace in today's sci-fi. The plot is more about human psychology and behavior. I would never live in a maze with life threatening hazards but the author cleverly developed a man who would even when offered other choices. I found it briefly thought-provoking. Rated C [3 stars].

Next is was an impulse buy, Department 19 by Will Hill a GR recommendation because I read and enjoyed Lockdown. Something about Frankenstein, Abraham Lincoln, Nazis and Victorian England.

Gearing up for Halloween reads with October looming. I'm going to start with some Mary Shelley. I've already read Frankenstein but want to see what else she has written.

Finished Persuader by Lee Child. Can't really say more than I liked it, but then, it's been one of those weekends.

Now I am about to start Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers.
