Okay. The books I have on the KA1 LE were all 'sideloaded" from Calibre & collections were created & populated with books.

The original problem is that the collections were "de-populated" after I did a power off for about 1 day & power on. Was the collection listing display done from ram where data disappear after being powered off? Does the database need to be "re-synced" after turning the KA1 off? Is the database really in "temporary" storage & need to be synced when the KA1 is turned off?

I see what people are saying, but no one addressed the issue of the collections listing of books being set to 0 books just because the reader was turned off. Looks like the collections listing is just a temporary list?
One possibility is database corruption. When your Kobo was power cycled, the database would be saved from RAM and then copied back to RAM on power on. If the database has issues, this process will fail. On one occasion, I hadn't powered off my Aura H2O for months and when I did a firmware update, the database came up with issues. Using a SQLite management utility, it showed quite a few errors in the database and I ended up doing a sign out/sign in to restore the database to a good condition.

That's not normal behavior. All my books are sideloaded, I switch off my ereader and, when I switch it on, the collections are there. So, there is a problem with your ereader.

Neither here nor there.

Could be a database corruption or a collateral effect of a patch. Clean up the database or restore the sys.
Good luck.

That was covered by my "depending on exactly what went wrong in the first place" statement. The answer is we don't know. The most likely reason is a corrupt database. If that is the case, then the recommended fix would be the signout/signin steps. About the only other thing I can think of is that the clock on the device was wrong. And during the sync, the timestamps on the collection records were such that the the sync decided they had been deleted. I'm not sure if that can happen, it would depend on exactly what checks were done. Another possibility is with multiple devices or the Kobo apps logged into the same account. There have been some problems with the syncing across all of them. I haven't noticed any recently, but, I haven't been looking to hard.

Unfortunately, this is one of those things that by the time you notice it, it is to late to work out what happened. If you see it and find the database is corrupted, then that is the answer. For the other possibilities I mentioned, it can be harder to prove.

Hello
I installed 2 days ago this firmware on my Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 and since this installation I also experience battery problems: it remains several hours above 95% and then drops suddenly to 25%. At the same time, the clock does not keep proper time.

Edit 09-17-2018 : I returned for 2 days to firmware 4.08.11073 and I have no more battery problem. So it was a problem of firmware and not a problem of hardware.

Hi huys,

I've just bought H20 edition 2 few days ago and I've fall into WIFI bug - keep asking for password each time I enabled the WIFI.

I've upgraded to 4.10.11655 firmware and I'm still having issues like:
- if I enable WIFI using toggle button a popup saying Join WIFI networks appear - I usually hit the X and close this and then finally connects to my WIFI network
- with WIFI enabled I saw that after a while it disconnects from my network but if I hit Synchronize or go to Kobo store to search a book it connects back

At least it doesn't requires WIFI password again and again but still not ok.

Now, I've contacted the Customer Support and they suggested a Factory Reset which I did and I'm still having the issues described above. And then they propose me to send me a replacement unit.

My question is now: is this a hardware issue and could be solved by replacing the unit? Did someone did this - get the unit replaced and then WIFI problems went away?
I have the possibility also to send back the unit and get another Kobo model or maybe a Kindle but I really liked this Kobo

No, it is the firmware, as you can read in several posts above. Customer service isn't always aware of the firmware bugs; replacing the device won't help. You could try an earlier firmware (which won't have Overdrive support) if you want. Otherwise, wait for a fix (firmware update) and keep hitting that X when it asks for your password again.

This is normal and expected behaviour (and hasn't changed in at least years, if ever). After some time rather than staying connected and using battery power if wifi isn't in use it "puts it to sleep" until you do something that requires wifi again (i.e. syncing or going to the store).

OK...so this is normal, even if I was connected to WIFI before. Good to know.

So...basically...instead of enabling/disabling the WIFI regularly is better to let it enable all the time and then connect or sync when is only needed?

having WIFI enabled all the time would drain the battery quicker unnecessarily. it's best to have WIFI enabled only if and when you want to use it.

my WIFI is permanently disabled because i have no need for it, i sideload ALL my books.

best wishes koboy
