Yeah, I know. One of the local guys was invoking Fran the other day and I just shuddered. That sucker took out some of the oldest trees on the quads at UNC back in the day. My parents live about 50 miles east and they were without power for WEEKS.

What an irony - the best day weather wise (high 70's/low 80's F) with a breeze ....

And I spent all day assembling my hurricane prep materials .... Hurricane Florence taking dead aim at NC ... expected landfall Thursday night/Friday morning ...

Horrible memories of surviving Hurricane Fran surfacing .... sigh ....

Our high temperature for the day was 58°F - the high temperature on Friday was 83°. It was overcast and rainy all day. Much more like early November.

And Bolin Creek has now flooded up into my neighborhood. The houses are not in danger, but we've all moved our cars back as far as possible and the bridge in and out of our neighborhood is closed.

I drove through the heaviest rain in my life this morning -- storms rolled in around 4:30 am and then dumped solid sheets of water for over an hour, beginning around 6:30. I have no idea how I got to work -- I was driving down the middle of the road (54) as both sides were flooded.

The fire department just brought a boat in down our driveway to get people whose homes flooded out. Ours did not flood, but the water came up about 6 feet, just to the steps of our front and back porches. We're gonna be stuck for a day or two until the water recedes.
