Certainly, but (for me at least) it makes it almost irrelevant, because I can plug it in during any spare few minutes and it’ll be fully charged again. My experience of the battery life hasn’t been as bad as some have reported, though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the charge fall as much as 30% after a full day’s reading (and I’m recovering from major surgery at the moment and hence doing a lot of reading), and it’s full again after 15 mins on charge.
That’s with WiFi off and the light on auto trained to be quite low. |

That is one of the pluses to me of the older ereaders: not having to plug it in as often. It isn't a big deal, but it is something that I prefer. |

Off-hand, starting with a fully-charged device, I think the lowest battery level I've ever seen after a full day's reading is around 78%. Something like that, anyway. I'm not bothered, to be honest. As long as I can read all day long and recharge the device in a few minutes, that's all I need.

This is why trying to make portable devices thinner and lighter is a really bad idea. Get a good battery and make the device to fit the battery. Don't sacrifice the battery. It just ruins the device.

Sorry, Jon, but I don't agree. I could read all day on my KO2 for probably 4 or 5 days, after which it'll recharge in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee. That, to me, is not a "ruined" device. Your requirements may of course differ from mine, in which case you should buy a device that suits you.

Well, I don't have a KOA2, or any eink Kindle for that matter, but I'll extrapolate here from my experience with the larger Kobo devices. To me it comes down to the extent to which a larger reader exists mainly as a stay-at-home reader. The KOA2, IMO, is a little large to be ideal as an out-and-about reader, so if a reader's going to be living next to my armchair anyway, I don't really care how often I have to plug it in. (This is the situation with my Aura One.)
OTOH, battery life matters for me when it comes to a device that essentially lives in a carry bag when I'd rather not have to keep topping it up and the more so if the likelihood I'd be near a charger if necessary is slim. And overall a smaller, chunkier device seems safer as a device on the move. |

So many people have a negative opinion about the Kindle Oasis 2 battery life, but did they really listen to what Amazon said about how long it would last or did they just want the newest device? Amazon states the battery of the KOA2 will last up to 6 weeks when reading for 30 minutes per day. If we do the math here and say it lasts the entire time and we ONLY read for 30 minutes a day, that means the battery will last 21 hours. 21 hours seems on par with how long people have said the battery lasts, depending on their settings. I knew this prior to purchasing it, and I’m satisfied because I knew what I was getting. It wasn’t hidden, it was in the description of the device. This battery “issue” is first world problems at their finest.

So I got a refurbished Kindle Oasis 2 today and I've been reading on it quite a bit. The battery life is completely fine for me!

I reserve the right to be annoyed about a battery that doesn’t even give me a full day of reading. On the top of the line device. And it is not indexing or anything like that. Light is always off, small font (fewer pages turns) and WiFi always off. Basically I’m using it 'hobbled' and it still doesn’t last from one day to the next. Apart from 'that' I do like it very much. But having had kindles 2, 3, basic (with the page turn buttons), then paperwhite and Voyage, all of which had the battery life as claimed in the amazon specs, I do feel this is disappointing. And I’m sick of people saying that this is not a legitimate feeling to have re the battery life.
I can’t even take it away overnight without a battery pack (which I do have, yes), but it annoys me that amazon think this is acceptable. If the (perfectly good in my experience) cover was recalled for being substandard, why hasn’t the oasis 2 been recalled? It’s not up to doing its one job. And don't even think about using Audible on it, unless you want to watch your battery count down in real time. Last edited by Pjama; 09-11-2018 at 05:28 PM. |
