I don't hate my Kindles (actually I like them) but I don't want all my eBook business to go to Amazon, so I'm going to be buying most of my books (the ones I buy) from Kobo and B&N. I'll probably still borrow from Overdrive mostly with Kindle, however, as that's the easiest way for me (without one of the Overdrive Kobos).

Yeppers. Ill buy kindle if I purchase an audiobook for i like reading and listening at the same time otherwise I go to my nook or kobo. I still have a ton of unread books/audiobook on my kindle I need to get to. I think most of the kobos have overdrive now unless its a very old model.

Once linked, does that mean any ebook I buy from Walmart will be in my Kobo account? And vice versa?

No idea. I don't have a Walmart account. When I'm signed into my Kobo account, I don't even see a Walmart ebook store. Clicking on ebooks just takes me to Kobo. Since I'm happy sticking with my Kobo account, I haven't bothered to investigate further.

My "newest" Kobo is a Touch (the original one, "B" model) so I think these would be considered old. Currently I think the on-device Overdrive feature is only offered for the four Kobo models currently on sale. I think folks are hoping this feature will be added to (at least) previous generations of Kobos. (Maybe it already has been, I'm not sure.) I'm guessing this support will never come to my really old Kobos.

As far I can tell, there is zero difference between the "Walmart" Kobo bookstore and the "Kobo" Kobo bookstore. Now, even when I get the Kobo logo bookstore online (instead of the Walmart login one) the first choice for login is Walmart, not Kobo. At this point, instead of linking my "Walmart" Kobo account and my Kobo account, I'll probably just erase the Walmart one. No reason to have both.

I think you are right in that expectation. And I think we should stop expecting OD integration to be added to the pre-Aura ONE devices. Now that they have added it to all of the currently available devices, I think it is very unlikely they will update the older devices.

But, I will be very happy if I am proved wrong.

I never did expect this for the original Kobo Touches, Minis, etc. It would be nice if they made it available for the "newer" past generations, like Kobo 6s and up. Maybe 5s?

Any chance of a patch for Overdrive support on older devices?

Any news on when KOBO ereader will be at walmart?

They haven't announced Kobo Plus for any country other than Belgium or the Netherlands. I found an article once that explained in detail why, but in short, it had to do with rampant piracy and the desperation of the big publishers—very similar to how Steve Jobs got the record labels to play ball when iTunes first launched. Kobo can only expand Plus if publishers support it—or if they want to bank on Indy like Amazon did with Kindle Unlimited.

Thanks for clarifying. I felt this display served as an ad for online services more than a viable bookstore. Now I know why. Do you have a link to that press release?

I've been busy with my daughter's wedding up until now, so haven't explored all the Walmart's in my area. With 1000 test sites, there is a high probability that one of those sites will be here in the Salt Lake City area.

I think there is a good chance there will be at least a few in the SLC area. I didn't have a clue how many Walmarts there were in the country so just looked it up. Apparently there are 3,561 "Supercenters" (which is what I think most Walmarts are now). So that probably means that all will have some kind of Kobo display — and a little less than a third will have Auras displayed.

BTW: Congratulations on your daughter's wedding.

The only e-reader the article mention that's going to be in 1,000 Walmart is the Old Aura... Why don't they put New Kobo in stores? Wouldn't they be better gages of What people Currently want? It's like they Want to Fail..

It's not the old Aura, it's the new "Edition 2" Aura. Why don't they have more expensive eReaders at Walmart? Because I think the in-store display and the devices available there are basically "impulse" buy items. I think the main goal is to compete with Amazon online.
