Cataloguing paper book in Calibre

I´m trying to use Calibre to manage all the books I have or already read, e-books and paperback as well.
I would like to know how to catalogue a book title which is not a real e-book, just to have it in the Calibre library

I use the ‘empty book’ technique but I also add a tag (I use [PAPER] ) to say it is a paper copy. This allows me to easily catalog books where I have both the paper book and the ebook version. I also use the ‘empty book’ technique to catalog books I do not currently have but hope to acquire in the future.

I also use empty books as a place to store tag like lists that I don't want to lose if there are no books using a value, and to which I can readily add, change and delete values.

I created empty text files, renamed them to .paperback or .hardback. Then I imported them to the books. Doing this, they appear under Formats, too.

That is brilliant. I'd been using custom tags, but your way makes it much easier to see when I have a physical book. Thank you!

Those are very good, using the empty book or an empty file with the extension, but both miss the author´s name. Why not having a new feature in Calibre to ask for the author´s name at the very moment it imports a file like that?

I use 'add empty book' with the option to create an empty txt file when cataloging my physical books and/or ebooks stuck in my Verbum/Logos account. I also add a relevant tag (pbook or logos) and it's location in a custom column.

The add empty txt allows me to add the entry to Calibre Companion as I'm much more likely to have my tablet close at hand when checking to see if I already own the book (and if so where is it?).

If you have Preferences->Add Books set to get metadata from file name, you can include title and author in the file name - eg Hilary Mantel - The Mirror and the Light.txt

Or you can use the Add Empty book option (Ctrl+Shift+E) and enter it the pop-up dialogue, viz:

In Calibre i created "Custom Metadata" and added this to the Main Pages columns. Created book type - eNovel - eComic - Novel - Comic
The new column tells me what book types I have :-)
Hope this helps :-)

You could make a custom column that appears on labels and put a book on paper or physical (Image 1)
This is how it looks in the book detail (image 2)
And so on in the detail of labels (image 3)
