And now free again, about a year after it was last free. Again my hope that this might indicate another title in the series on the way seems to be not the case. Sigh...

Mass has dropped to FREE again at Kindle US. I was hopeful this might indicate another title in the series coming out, but it doesn't appear so, at least as of now.

J.A. Jance's Ali Reynolds Mysteries 3-Book Boxed Set, Volume 2 is pretty much what it sounds like - a collection of the 5th, 6th and 7th books in this series. Titles are:

This collection has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

Having read and enjoyed the first four, I've been waiting a while for Blue Blooded, which is the fifth title in Emma Jameson's Lord and Lady Hetheridge series, to go on sale. It now has gone on sale as half of a two-book omnibus, Deadly Duet, which also includes the fourth title in the series, Black & Blue. Duet has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (VIP/couponable), which is a pretty nice price, even though I already have the fourth book.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G8TDMGX
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/dea...lish-mysteries

Spoiler:
Quote:
Two of Emma Jameson's best mysteries, now in one volume! If you haven't tried these romantic, witty cozies, DEADLY DUET is the perfect place to start.

Lord Anthony Hetheridge, a legend at Scotland Yard, has just married Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield. The newlyweds couldn't be more different. Tony Hetheridge is sixty, blue-blooded, and the perfect English gentleman sleuth. Bold, blonde Kate is thirty-three, working class, and modern London to the bone. Falling in love with Kate turned Lord Hetheridge's life upside down, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

In BLACK & BLUE, Tony, Kate, and DS Deepal "Paul" Bhar take on the death of a widely-hated art dealer. Was it counterfeits that brought him down, or drug smuggling, or his parade of scorned women?

In BLUE BLOODED, Tony, and Kate, and Paul face perhaps their greatest challenge when the fiendish Sir Duncan Godington returns, bent on revenge.

And I nearly missed it, because I assumed at first that the omnibus would be of the first two titles, which is much (much) more common. Then something made me look at it again, and I realized it was of the two most recent titles. Woo-hoo

Two Josephine Tey/Inspector Grant titles have dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Note that some of Tey's titles are public domain in some countries, so if you have any travel coming soon to any of those countries, you may want to consider carefully before buying these...

And here, if you live in the wrong place and aren't traveling soon, are links and info for the S&S US versions:

The Man in the Queue, apa Killer in the Crowd, #1
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AB194TQ
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-man-in-the-queue-3
Spoiler:
Quote:
Inspector Alan Grant searches for the identity of a man killed in the line at a theater and for the identity of the killer—whom no one saw.

A long line had formed for the standing-room-only section of the Woffington Theatre. London’s favorite musical comedy of the past two years was finishing its run at the end of the week. Suddenly, the line began to move, forming a wedge before the open doors as hopeful theatergoers nudged their way forward. But one man, his head sunk down upon his chest, slowly sank to his knees and then, still more slowly, keeled over on his face. Thinking he had fainted, a spectator moved to help, but recoiled in horror from what lay before him: the man in the queue had a small silver dagger neatly plunged into his back. With the wit and guile that have made Inspector Grant a favorite of mystery fans, the inspector sets about discovering just how a murder occurred among so many witnesses, none of whom saw a thing.

To Love and Be Wise, #3
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AB194W8
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/to-love-and-be-wise-1
Spoiler:
Quote:
A witty and sophisticated mystery featuring bestselling author Josephine Tey’s popular Inspector Alan Grant, a beloved character created by a woman considered to be one of the greatest mystery writers of all time.

Literary sherry parties were not Alan Grant's cup of tea. But when the Scotland Yard Inspector arrived to pick up actress Marta Hallard for dinner, he was struck by the handsome young American photographer, Leslie Searle. Author Lavinia Fitch was sure her guest "must have been something very wicked in ancient Greece," and the art colony at Salcott St. Mary would have agreed. Yet Grant heard nothing more of Searle until the news of his disappearance. Had Searle drowned by accident or could he have been murdered by one of his young women admirers? Was it a possible case of suicide or had the photographer simply vanished for reasons of his own?

Dead of Winter is the first in the CSI: New York series by Stuart M. Kaminsky. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FCKCR4
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/dead-of-winter-4

Spoiler:
Quote:
A thrilling original novel based on the television series CSI: New York!

Detective Mac Taylor is a dedicated and driven crime-scene investigator who believes that everything is connected and everyone has a story. He and his partner, Detective Stella Bonasera, lead a team of experts through the gritty and kinetic world of New York City. These skilled investigators, who see New York in a unique light, follow the evidence as they piece together clues and eliminate doubt to ultimately crack their cases.

The body of a middle-aged man is found in the elevator of a ritzy doorman building on the Upper East Side. Mac Taylor and Aiden Burn's initial investigation yields no bullets, no DNA evidence, and no motive. Could this be the perfect crime? Meanwhile, only a few blocks away, Stella Bonasera and Danny Messer investigate the murder of a witness being held in protective custody. The law enforcement officers on duty swear that the victim spent the night in a locked hotel room—only to be found dead in the morning. From the heart of midtown to the outer boroughs, the New York CSI team must piece together the evidence and solve two puzzling crimes in the city that never sleeps.

Ooo, thanks! The sample on the Duet above, book 4, reads well and is interesting. So I'll try the series. How lovely to also find book 1 available, so I can read in order! (Wonder if #2 and #3 ever go on sale.... But if I find time to start and finish #1, I'll want #2 and #3 RIGHT THEN, so I'll buy them anyway.)

No Comment: A (Reluctant) Interview with Geek Girl Lexi Carmichael appears to be pretty much what it says it is, a pretend "interview" with the heroine of the Geek Girl mystery/thriller/romance series by Julie Moffett. It also says it includes an "interview" with the protagonist of a new "White Knights" series by Moffett.

I'm usually a bit suspicious of these companion-type things, but Comment is free right now, so no biggie to try it and see...

The others do go on sale, but only rarely and for not very long. But at least they are normally in the $5 range, not the $8 - $10 range that some smaller presses seem to carry over from their "trade paperbacks". There is also a (consistently named) omnibus of the first three titles, Deadly Trio, that is currently $9.99, but spent quite a while at $0.99 earlier this year. If the first one weren't free, $9.99 would be a good price, but as it is, Trio works out to about the same as the individual titles for #2 and #3, give or take a couple pennies.

But I know what you mean - when I do find a series I like, I want to read it now - and not wait for a sale...

First in the police procedural series, this “plot [is] replete with shocks . . . Her vivid portrayal of Naples, in its glory and its gloom, is unforgettable” (Richmond Times-Dispatch).

When a college student is found murdered in the catacombs beneath a monastery, Capt. Natalia Monte of the Carabinieri is assigned to investigate. Could the killer be a professor the student was sleeping with? A blind monk who loved her? Or a member of the brutal criminal organization known as the Camorra? As Monte pursues her investigation, the crime families of Naples go to war over garbage-hauling contracts, and across the city heaps of trash pile up, uncollected. When one of Monte’s childhood friends is caught up in the violence, her loyalties are tested, and each move she makes threatens her own life and the lives of those she loves.
