A femme fatale... or a female Jack the Ripper?

It was springtime in France—the season of love in the country of romance. But Scotland Yard Inspector Henry Peckover had murder on his mind.

The local police had asked him to make some inquiries about Mrs. Mercy McCluskey, a Frenchman’s lusty American wife. It seemed that a former boyfriend of this most-liberated lady had turned up dead. Then a second . . . and a third!

Before long, Inspector Peckover had uncovered an IRA connection, a gin-swilling gunrunner, a mysterious killer with a very French twist, and another potential corpse—his own...

Again at $1.99 at Kindle US as part of the Daily Deal, matched at Kobo US. Links below are still good. This title normally sits between $7.99 and $11.99 (!!!), with only brief price drops, so grab it fast if you want it.

A “beguiling” novel of murder, politics, and family in fascist Spain, from an Edgar Award–winning author (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

In the southern city of Granada, Spain, bastion of the conservative Catholic aristocracy, fear of the Red Menace is still strong in 1945. One rich, arrogant, elderly lady summons the police to her home almost once a week; she is sure Communists are plotting against her. She changes her will almost as often. When she is found dead, the long-suffering local police can’t believe that she really may have been murdered. But as her latest will has vanished, the death must be investigated.

Influence is exerted to have Lt. Carlos Tejada Alonso y León transferred temporarily from Potes, in the northern mountains where he has been stationed, to take charge—because the rich old woman is his grand aunt Rosalia, and one of the chief suspects is his father. The family expects Tejada to exonerate its members. But Tejada is a man who puts duty first . . .

From the author of Death of a Nationalist—a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist that was named a best book of the year by the Chicago Tribune and Detroit Free PressThe Summer Snow is “a triumph of characterization, suspense and atmosphere . . . [that] will richly reward lovers of both mysteries and mainstream literary fiction” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

Although the blurbs say these are the first and second titles in this series (due to publisher quirks), these are really the fifth and sixth titles. In any case, both have dropped again to $1.99. Links below are still good.

Just got an email from the Crime Classics folks, announcing a $2.99 (each) sale on titles in the Inspector Littlejohn series by George Bellairs - at least those e-pub by Agora Books.

Here's the text of the email:

Quote:
Last week, we emailed you to let you know that Agora Books were re-publishing their first Bellairs title in over a year: the classic Inspector Littlejohn Mystery, Death Spins the Wheel.

To celebrate the release of Death Spins the Wheel, we are so excited to let our devoted readers know that all of Agora's other Inspector Littlejohn eBook editions are now only $2.99 each for the next week!

If you've been meaning to catch up on the escapades of Inspector Littlejohn, or if you're looking to start (or complete!) your Bellairs collection, this is the deal you've been waiting for.

You can find all of Agora's Inspector Littlejohn eBooks (excluding Death Spins the Wheel) for just $2.99 each until Friday 17th August.

START YOUR COLLECTION NOW

Offers this good don't come around often, so be sure to get your Bellairs fix before they return to full price next Friday.

Happy reading,
The Crime Classics Team
And sure enough, when I went and looked in eReaderIQ, there are a bunch of price drops on Bellairs/Littlejohn titles to $2.99, mostly from $6.99. Here is a link for Kindle US that picks up all Bellairs titles from $0.01 to $2.99 - there are a couple of strays in there, but not too bad.

This doesn't appear to be matched at Kobo US, just a couple of titles in this price range at the moment, but I'm including a Kobo link too for price-check purposes. If these do drop at Kobo, there is the added benefit that they may be coupon/VIPable, so it may be worth waiting a day or so (given that the sale is good through 8/17) to see if they drop there if you have a Kobo VIP membership.

Sufue is absolutely right and the price drops are welcome (if not all of them massive . . . ) but to the uninitiated it's worth pointing out that 'all' does not mean ALL! Nearly half the Bellairs copyrights are held by Endeavour Media (randomly it seems), so you will never complete a collection from Agora alone.
Easy to check complete listings on FantasticFiction and/or Goodreads though.

Either way, Littlejohn (with one or two exceptions unfortunately) is a detective welll worth getting to know.

And some in the US are also e-pub by Mysterious Press/Open Road. Luckily a lot of the Endeavour and Open Road ones have also gone on sale (US, at least) from time-to-time, but still there are an awful lot of them. Probably a good thing, since not-so-good series generally tend to die out before 50+ books, but still, a lot

I also have liked the ones I've read so far, including some way back in DTB, but I'd have been much happier with $0.99 or $1.99 as the sale price for very old backlist. $2.99 is too much for me, at least, to just buy them all, whereas at $0.99, I might have done it...

Betrayed by Death is the thirteenth in the C.I.D. Room series by Roderic Jeffries. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Betrayed-Deat...dp/B07FKMXK37/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The chase accelerates tensely—but will inspector fusil find the killer before another child is murdered?

Crime is mounting in Inspector Fusil’s manor—bank robberies, stolen antiques, a rash of minor villainies. But how can the inspector, a father himself, give these any attention when someone is murdering little boys? In a harrowing pursuit, Fusil and his detectives slowly close in on the author of this most despicable kind of wickedness.

Praise for Roderic Jeffries:

“The surprising ending is more true to life than to fiction.” — Mystery News

“Alding handles a potentially horrific plot with admirable restraint and compels our involvement with the problems facing Inspector Fusil of an English suburban town.” — Publishers Weekly

Roderic Jeffries was born in London in 1926 and was educated at Harrow View House Preparatory School and the Department of Navigation, University of Southampton. In 1943, he joined the New Zealand Shipping Company as an apprentice and sailed to Australia and New Zealand, but later transferred to the Union Castle Company in order to visit a different part of the world. He returned to England in 1949 where he was admitted to the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn and read for the Bar at the same time as he began to write. He was called to the Bar in 1953, and after one year's pupilage, practiced law for a few terms during which time there to write full time. His first book, a sea story for juveniles, was published in 1950.

And now £0.98 at Kindle UK. Not sure if ePublishing Works counts as a self-pub or not, but in any case, I have read and really liked all of the books in this series.
