I just updated to the latest version of fanficfare and it still overwrites. It is apparently a new feature:
"- Calibre Plugin: Remove ebook formats before update, overwrite or unnew so that the previouis version ends up in trash in stead of just copied over." This is a step back, please fix the problem. |

I think my reply to you got deleted somehow, Jimmxinu. I think the problem is the new "feature" in 2.27:
"Calibre Plugin: Remove ebook formats before update, overwrite or unnew so that the previouis version ends up in trash instead of just copied over." This is copied from the version list. I would prefer to just copy over instead of overwrite. I did update to the latest version, and had removed and installed a new copy of fanficfare. I haven't changed anything in the books other than to update with fanficfare. I apologize for not being clearer in my first post. Thank you for the help. |

The code works as follows:
The only thing that changed was the addition of step 3. Before step 4 directly overwrote the pre-existing epub file. Now, the pre-existing epub is available in trash. I've just tested it again on Windows10 and on MacOS 10.14 and it does what I have described. If this is a problem you can reproduce, please post:

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but when I try to download the following link, most of the text doesn't show up. I've attached the epub.
The link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/2600 Here's my save personal.ini: Spoiler:

@Tanjamuse,
That story consists entirely of broken image tags. AO3 even reports it as 0 word length. The 'text' you see in the browser is actually the img alt/title text. Example: Code:
<img title="Rodney's never been one for the post-it notes, because it takes more time to write things down than it does to type them up. Long hand is just not something he does anymore." src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2436187/homesickness/p01.JPG" alt="Rodney's never been one for the post-it notes, because it takes more time to write things down than it does to type them up. Long hand is just not something he does anymore." data-pagespeed-url-hash="2690789119" onload="pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);"/> I doubt it would help, but you could try adding this to your personal.ini to also preserve the title attributes: add_to_keep_html_attrs:,title So, FFF is functioning as intended, the 'story' is basically broken. |

Thanks for the explanation. It didn't work with the added line in the personal.ini.

There is a weird bug with royal roadl right now where updated existing stories in the library works, but adding new ones has the plugin acting like there is no URL and even copying it in doesn't do anything.

Looks like they've changed their domain. It used to be www.royalroadL.com
New Test Version Posted 2018-08-07 - royalroadl.com has changed to www.royalroad.com. BTW, if you have the "Check for changed Story URL" option checked, FFF will stop and ask you to confirm when you try to update a story from that site using a URL. Because, you know, it's changing the story URL. ![]() Last edited by JimmXinu; 08-07-2018 at 06:22 PM. |

New Test version posted
This is the first public test version with code changes for python3 CLI users. I've also left the previous test version posted just in case. This time it's really a test version--only use it if you're backed up and prepared to live with possible mistakes. Please report any issues you see. 2018-08-08 - Accept both [royalroad.com] and pre-existing [royalroadl.com] sections. - Change [royalroadl.com] to [www.royalroad.com] - Update included_dependencies - Many, many changes to make code run on both python 2.7 and python 3. |

I reinstalled calibre completely and restarted my computer and now fanficfare works properly on my mac. It doesn't overwrite if I don't want it to anymore. Thank you. Sorry for the double post earlier this week. I've saved the advice you gave and the next time something odd happens, I'll have somewhere to start from.

Just updated to the latest version of FFF via calibre today and downloads from royalroad.com still doesn't work. No error message or anything.
FFF doesn't automatically put the url into the Story URL box on cut and paste and selecting "Download from URLs" from the FFF drop down menu on calibre. If I manually copy and paste the royalroad.com url to the Story URLs box, then hit "ok", nothing happens. Not even getting an error message or the jobs dialog spinning. Example the url: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/88...s-large-chests I'm running Win10 and calibre 3.28 and FFF v2.28.0. |
