Unprecedented heat wave in Sweden with extreme (for Sweden) drought and enormous forest fires.

Sweden is burning.

Huge forest fires. The worst forest fire situation ever. Firefighters have given up attempts to put out some of the largest fires, they are too big to be extinguished. Instead attempts are being made to control the fires to protect villages and towns and to reduce the spread of the fires. Help from other parts of EU and Scandinavia is already here and more is arriving. (Thanks!!!) Helicopters, firefighters, aircraft. EU satellite mapping systems tasked with helping Swedish civil protection authorities.

Where I live there was some rain earlier this week. Hopefully there will be no fires here. Still warm and very dry. The grass is brown and the leaves on some trees are starting to wilt.

Strange, I'm more used to reading about troubles and catastrophes elsewhere...

Following several weeks of extreme heat and sunshine,today has started out cloudy and with a nice fresh breeze.Still comfortable,temperature wise, but more

Hit 110 F yesterday (43 C).

Texas summer. . . . .

(And bye the bye, so far it's only the 5th hottest summer on record. . . Summer of 1980 is still the champ.)

This July will most likely, with a wide margin, be the warmest on record in Stockholm. And that record goes back to 1756.

21.5 C is the July average? The standard year-round climate controlled temperature (indoors) is 23 C here in Texas. . .

No. That was the average for the previous record hot July in 1994.

The average July temperature in Stockholm is around 18 C. And Stockholm is in the south of Sweden...

Sweden and Alaska are almost equally far north.

All homes in Sweden can be heated, few can be cooled.

The heatwave was back yesterday,with a vengeance! Today seems as though it may be the same again. I'm not complaining myself, but it is dangerous for wildfires and apparently for the cattle and livestock.
