Who has two devices, and why?

Hey hi!

You might know if you've seen my other thread that I'm struggling with a brand new H2O v2 device that was an exchange with a previous device (same model) that was causing me trouble. Which has lead me to get a Clara HD to have both devices in hand and decide which I prefered.

Well now, I can't pick. I love the screen of my H2O. Also love the fact that it's waterproof for bath and beaches readings. But I can't deal with such a poor battery on the go. It will always need charging, which can't always be possible when you're travelling...
But I was used to owning an Aura for a few years and I am used to the 6" screen. So on the go, I think I prefer the Clara. The H2O does seem a bit heavy and large for travels and commuting (which I do a lot). The Clara just seems to be lighter and easier to carry around IMO, but I do love my big H2O screen when I'm home on my couch.

So now I truly can't pick. I either try to exchange my H2O for a third time and see if this time the battery will last (suggested by Kobo), or I keep the Clara Hd, or I keep both and just decide which I should use depending on the situation.

Who has two devices, which are they, and why do you have two? I feel a bit ridiculous for owning two such similar and new devices lol.

I must admit to having more than 2 devices. Currently, I switch between a KA1 and a Tolino epos (both 7.8" devices) for day to day reading. I also have an H2O original which has my cooking collection on it for use in the kitchen. Then there's an Aura HD which is more or less retired except for playing with patches and alternate software -- it's the easiest to get the uSD card out when I need to recover from an experiment that bricked it.

As to why I still have them? A touch of hoarder?

I have more than 2 devices also. I'm very picky in that I need a front light infrared touch reader, and it's getting hard to find them anymore. So I got a spare Glo HD and another at a fantastic price, so I have 2 backups.

I can certainly relate to 2 devices and a back up too. For pretty much the same reasons. I have a Oasis 2 and I like the larger size and it's water proof , but the battery life is not great. I have a smaller voyage that I use more and also purchased a back up Voyage during a sale. I had a recent scare when the wifi signal didn't come up on my first Voyage and I thought " Oh no what if it's not going to come up again ! " It did after a restart and it's been working fine. I just needed a back up just in case, because I do use it when I'm out too. I like the size and great for travel. The Oasis stays home , I need to charge it more and I read it at night. So both devices work for how I use them.

Well I can see I'm not the only one. Maybe the Clara will stick around and I'll use it for outside my house and the H2O will stay for when I'm home .... I'm still debating

Since you seem to have the £€$¥, you could also look at it the other way around: what would be a reason not to have/keep both devices?

From your other posts I gather you (mostly?) read sideloaded books. Those don't sync across devices (nor does the reading progress if you sideload the same books on both devices). This would drive me crazy. So it might be something to consider, unless you plan to read different books on each device, or wouldn't mind plugging both devices into Calibre before you switch devices to have that extract and send reading progress, or navigate to where you stopped reading on the other device manually...

I have a few.... 2 mini's, an original Touch and a H2O. One of the mini's I alway's carry with me. I just love it's size. The second one is for trying new firmware's out or just play around with. The Touch used to be my primary reader at home until I bought the H2O. The frontlight is just a must have for me in the bed now. The Touch is now primarily used by my girlfriend.
Then there are a few other mini's my kids use....

Each device is different. One is great for reading in an armchair or in a bed, another fits my pocket and is great on the go.
I have a few more, including a backup device that I got in a fire-sale and a few semi-retired ones.

The times when I could only afford one reader at a great expense (and it was irreplaceable) are long gone. Nowadays I do not have to fear that something happens with my reader and I will have return to a clunky old LCD device I used before ;-)

So my reasons were fair enough! Pretty much the same as all of you ; the use for the two devices is different and it's great to have a larger one for home and a smaller one for "on the go"!

I have two of the exact same device. I keep one at home, and take another on the go.

My first device was the Sony PRS-500, and I have picked up a few more along the way. As long as the older ones keep working, I'll keep using them.

One thing that I find convenient is that when you borrow a library book, all you need to do is open it before it expires. Then, as long as you don't switch to a different book, you can keep it open as long as you like.

So when I am waitlisted for books, especially series that come available in the wrong order, I just open a different book on a different reader. Now I can read them in the order I want, not the order I get them.

In the name of God

Hello

I have two book reader, kindle oasis and Kobo Aura One.
I first bought Kindle and then Kobo from Turkey.
I like have two device but not same device or have a same feature
Device with different feature that help to me
For example my aura have large screen and I install KOreader and read my pdf at it ( actually wonderful)
Oasis is very thin and small and where I can't take my bag ( for example at party) I used it for reading and surfing Internet

I think if a device can help to me read more or be useful for me
I bought it and this is not important how many devices I have

It is important use them
Not how many device do you have
I think

Get a powerbank to recharge on the go!

I am a gadget collector! So I have in ereaders: Sony PRS-350, Nook ST, Kobo Glo, Kobo H2O, Kindle Paperwhite. In tablets: Fire HD7, Fire HD8, Fire HD8.9, Insignia 10". Love and use them all from time to time depending on need and circumstance. Why limit yourself, if you can afford this reading habit?? (I don't have many other vices and my obsession doesn't hurt anybody...)

May I suggest investing in a good powerbank which will charge all the above via USB. I just got a Portable Charger RAVPower 16750 on Prime Day for $22, regular price $32 (link) which seems to hold a good charge and tops off all my devices nicely.
