The Winemaker Detective: An Omnibus contains the first three mysteries in the Winemaker Detective series by Jean-Pierre Alaux. It is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $2.99 for about 3 3/4 more days. The first in the series, Treachery in Bordeaux, was previously free, but this is still not a bad deal if you want/need the other two. Still, check carefully before you buy...

link: https://www.amazon.com/Winemaker-Det...dp/B01722D3QG/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The first three books in the Winemaker Detective Series serve up a whirlwind of money, deceit, inheritance, greed, and fine wine, ideal for fans of Iron Chef & Murder, She Wrote.

In this “addictive” series, master winemaker Benjamin Cooker and his sidekick Virgile solve mysteries in vineyards across French wine country. In Treachery in Bordeaux, barrels at a prestigious wine estate have been contaminated. Is it negligence or sabotage? The two wine connoisseurs investigate in this light-hearted, page-turning read.

In Grand Cru Heist, the two amateur detectives meet a motley crew of characters near Tours—a stunning blonde, a zealous concierge, and touchy local police—and must solve two murders along the way.

In Nightmare in Burgundy, a dream wine tasting trip turns into a troubling nightmare when Cooker and Virgile stumble upon a mystery revolving around messages from another era. What dark secrets from the deep past are haunting the Clos de Vougeot? Does blood need to be shed to sharpen people's memory?

Brimming with description, intrigue, and compelling characters, the Omnibus offers a rare chance to sample the first three books in this “terrific series” for less than a bottle of your favorite wine (William Martin, New York Times Bestselling Author).

The Lord of Death is the 6th in the Inspector Shan Tao Yun series by Eliot Pattison. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Death-In...dp/B004HYHAY4/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-lord-of-death/

Spoiler:
Quote:
From an Edgar Award winner comes this murder mystery in a “superlative series set in ethereal, enigmatic, long enduring Tibet” (Booklist, starred review).

Shan Tao Yun is an exiled Chinese national and a former Beijing investigator, on parole from a Tibetan gulag. One day, he is ferrying a corpse on muleback over the slopes of Chomolungma—Mount Everest—at the request of a local wisewoman who says the gods have appointed this task to him, when he encounters what looks like a traffic accident.

A government bus filled with imprisoned Tibetan monks has overturned. Then Shan hears gunfire. Two women in an approaching sedan have been killed. One is the Chinese minister of tourism; the other, a blonde Westerner, organizes climbing expeditions. Though she dies in his arms, Shan is later met with denials that this foreigner is dead.

Shan must find the murderer, for it may be the only hope he has for saving his son, Ko—imprisoned in a Chinese “yeti factory” where men are routinely driven mad . . .

According to SYKM, Cardinal's Court is the first, but also, so far, the only title in the Hugh Mac Egan series by Cora Harrison. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable). Harrison's titles in her longer established/better known Mara series are normally pretty pricey in the US, and don't go on sale much, so nice to see this one drop - probably due to being a different publisher...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Cardinals-Cou...dp/B06Y2GZLF9/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/cardinal-s-court

Spoiler:
Quote:
Hampton Court, 1522. Two young men, both heirs to an earldom, both rivals. Their hatred comes to a climax when Queen Katherine of Aragon brings her ladies-in-waiting to Cardinal Wolsey's luxurious palace. One of the ladies, Anne Boleyn, is to marry James Butler, son of the Earl of Ormond in Ireland, but appears more attracted to Harry Percy, son of the Earl of Northumberland. And when a member of the cardinal's staff is found shot dead with an arrow, Percy is quick to give evidence that implicates Butler. With Percy's testimony unexpectedly backed by Boleyn, things start to look bleak for the young Irishman. Luckily, his father has sent a Brehon lawyer, Hugh Mac Egan, over from Ormond to draw up the marriage contract between the Butlers and the Boleyns. With many years' experience in solving crimes, Mac Egan sets out to find the real killer.

The Honest Folk of Guadeloupe is the second in the Anne Marie Laveaud series by Timothy Williams. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (VIP/couponable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Honest-Guadel...dp/B00LYXED0A/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...f-guadeloupe-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
From one of the Guardian’s “10 Best Modern European Crime Writers,” this mystery set in the Caribbean stars “a fascinating heroine” (Kirkus Reviews).

It’s the spring of 1990, and French-Algerian judge Anne Marie Laveaud has been living and working in the French Caribbean department of Guadeloupe for more than a decade—but her days are still full of surprises. She’s only just starting to investigate the suspicious suicide of a high-profile environmental activist and media personality when she’s pulled off the case. Is it because she was getting too close to the truth?

From the award-winning author of the Inspector Trotti series, this “absorbing” tale of suspense set in the Leeward Islands is “laden with insights about the legacies of colonialism, such as nuanced racism, official corruption, and troubled interactions between men and women” (Publishers Weekly).

And Only to Deceive is the first in the Lady Emily series by Tasha Alexander. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Only-Deceiv...dp/B00AN2KQTU/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A novel of historical suspense set in Victorian England and featuring stolen antiquities, betrayal and murder.

For Emily, accepting the proposal of Philip, Viscount Ashton, was an easy way to escape her stifling home life so when her new husband dies on safari, she feels little grief for she barely knew the man. Now, two years on, when she finds his journals she discovers a very different man to the one she thought she had married – one who was a gentleman scholar who was very much in love with his new wife. Emily becomes fascinated with this new image of her dead husband and immerses herself in his intellectual pursuits, studying Greek and spending time in the quiet corridors of the British Museum.

But there, amid priceless ancient statues, she uncovers a dark, dangerous secret involving stolen artifacts from the Greco-Roman galleries… and as she sets out to solve the crime she discovers even more surprises about her dead husband…

Whisper to the Blood is the 16th in the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow. I'm still mad at Stabenow for her cliff-hanger at the end of Bad Blood, and didn't feel she redeemed it adequately in Less than a Treason, but liked (really liked some of them) all of the Kate Shugak books up through then, including this one. (Bad Blood and Treason are the two most recent books in the series, #20 and #21.)

In any case, Whisper has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Whisper-Blo...dp/B00ADP4OF4/

Spoiler:
Quote:
KATE SHUGAK is a native Aleut working as a private investigator in Alaska. She's 5 foot 1 inch tall, carries a scar that runs from ear to ear across her throat and owns half-wolf, half-husky dog named Mutt. Resourceful, strong-willed, defiant, Kate is tougher than your average heroine – and she needs to be to survive the worst the Alaskan wilds can throw at her.

WHISPER TO THE BLOOD. A mining company has discovered a rich mineral deposit in Alaska's enormous Iqaluk Wildlife Refuge. Politicos see dollar signs for the state, but Ninilta residents, who live near the proposed site, are split: Will outsiders take the jobs? Will the environment be harmed by pollution? Will roads disintegrate . . . tourists invade? As the new chairperson of Ninilta's Native Association, a job she never wanted, Kate is embarassingly ill-equipped to handle the questions. Nor is she prepared when two individuals associated with the company turn up dead.

P.S. If you've never read this series, the first title, A Cold Day for Murder, is available free from Stabenow's website: https://stabenow.com/e-books/. You have to page down about half-way to find it.
