Cat Breaking Free is the 11th in the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Cat-Breaking-...dp/B000W939QG/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?Qu...+Breaking+Free

Spoiler:
Quote:
The fur starts flying when a gang from L.A. comes up to tranquil Molena Point, California, and begins breaking into the village's quaint shops. The fur of Joe Grey, Feline P.I., that is. After all, Molena Point has been his home since he was a kitten eating scraps from the garbage behind the local delicatessen, and he doesn't take well to marauding strangers. Joe even wonders whether the blonde who's moved into next to his human companion Clyde could be a part of the gang––she's been acting pretty suspicious lately. But when the strangers start trapping and caging feral cats––speaking cats like Joe and his girlfriend Dulcie––it proves too much for the intrepid four–footed detective. And when one of the gang is murdered, and a second mysterious death comes to light, he has no choice but to try to stop the crimes. Joe, Dulcie, and their tattercoat friend Kit, who used to be a stray herself, are deep into the investigation when they are able to release the three trapped cats. But as Kit leads them away to freedom, will she herself return to that wild life?

No Shred of Evidence is a fairly recent (2016) title in the Inspector Ian Rutledge series by Charles Todd. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/No-Shred-Evid...dp/B00WR12KU8/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/no-shred-of-evidence

Spoiler:
Quote:
In this absorbing new entry in the acclaimed New York Times bestselling series, Scotland Yard’s Ian Rutledge is caught up in a twisted web of vengeance and murder.

On the north coast of Cornwall, an apparent act of mercy is repaid by an arrest for murder. Four young women have been accused of the crime. A shocked father calls in a favor at the Home Office. Scotland Yard is asked to review the case.

However, Inspector Ian Rutledge is not the first Inspector to reach the village. Following in the shoes of a dead man, he is told the case is all but closed. Even as it takes an unexpected personal turn, Rutledge will require all his skill to deal with the incensed families of the accused, the grieving parents of the victim, and local police eager to see these four women sent to the infamous Bodmin Gaol. Then why hasn’t the killing stopped?

With no shred of evidence to clear the accused, Rutledge must plunge deep into the darkest secrets of a wild, beautiful and dangerous place if he is to find a killer who may—or may not—hold the key to their fate.

The Falcon at the Portal is the 11th in the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. This series doesn't go on sale in the US very much, so enjoy...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Falcon-Portal...dp/B000FC11P6/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...at-the-portal#

Spoiler:
Quote:
From New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Peters comes another riveting mystery in her phenomenally popular Amelia Peabody series.

The Land of the Pharaohs harbors more secrets than any tomb can hide.

In Egypt for the 1911 archaeological season, Amelia Peabody and her family are not anticipating trouble, but it finds them nonetheless. Their young friend David is accused of selling ancient artifacts, and it's up to the Emersons to expose the real culprit. But the body of an American discovered at the bottom of their excavation shaft and a child of mysterious antecedents are sparking twin crises that threaten to tear the family apart. Amelia brings her estimable powers of deduction to bear, but she might not survive long enough to unravel more than one perplexing puzzle—because suddenly someone is shooting bullets in her direction...and coming too close for comfort!

“Amelia is rather like Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple all rolled into one.”—Washington Post Book World

Quote:
Paris - the city of romance, where Lady Emily
struggles to unmask a murderer amid a case of assumed identities and
shadowy figures. After an odd encounter at a grand masquerade ball, Lady
Emily becomes embroiled in the murder investigation of one of the
guests, a sometime actress trying to pass herself off as the mysterious
heiress and world traveller Estella Lamar. Each small discovery,
however, leads to more questions. Was the intended victim Miss Lamar or
the imposter? And who would want either of them dead? As Emily and her
husband try to make sense of all this, a larger puzzle begins to emerge:
No one has actually seen Estella Lamar in years, since her only contact
has been through letters and the occasional blurry news photograph. Is
she even alive? Emily's investigation of this double mystery takes her
from London to Paris, where, along with their friend Cecile, she must
scour the darkest corners of the city in search of the truth.

The One From The Other is the 4th in the Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Other-G...dp/B0038QN2A8/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Munich, 1949: Amid the chaos of defeat, it is home to all the backstabbing intrigue that prospers in the aftermath of war. A place where a private eye like Bernie Gunther can find a lot of not-quite-reputable work: cleaning up the Nazi past of well-to-do locals, abetting fugitives in the flight abroad, sorting out rival claims to stolen goods. It is work that fills Bernie with disgust - but it also fills his sorely depleted wallet.

Then a woman seeks him out. Her husband has disappeared. She's not looking to get him back - he's a wanted man who ran one of the most vicious concentration camps in Poland. She just wants confirmation that he's dead.

It is a simple enough job. But in post-war Germany, nothing is simple…

Six Days To Death is the 9th in the C.I.D. Room series by Roderic Jeffries. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Days-Death-C-...dp/B07DGDM2NC/

Spoiler:
Quote:
P.C. Tom Brady was not very ambitious, yet to his work he brought a sense of dedication which made him the perfect man to be in charge of an uneventful unit beat: he was a round peg in a round hole.

Then there was a brutal bank robbery, during which he prevented the villains escaping with all they had stolen. Unknown to P.C. Brady initially, the leader of the mob vowed vengeance and set out to gain this with further brutal efficiency.

As the final confrontation came nearer, P.C. Brady was forced to realise not only that his life was at stake, but that duty could mean different things to different people, even to husband and wife who loved each other.

The Game is the 4th (SYKM) or 5th (blurb) in the Keith Calder series by Gerald Hammond. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Game-Keith-Ca...dp/B07DGFYVHM/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Keith Calder, the engaging rogue who has appeared in Gerald Hammond’s previous novels, is in his element in this new adventure.

Millmont House, not far from Edinburgh, is the headquarters of a group of companies under the name of Personal Service, and Millmont House offers the oldest service – it is a high class and very expensive brothel. In one of its luxury apartments there is substantial evidence that a murder has been committed and it is clear that an antique pistol was the weapon.

But there is no body, in fact no clue as to who might have been killed, never mind who was the murderer. Into this discreet, wealthy atmosphere comes Keith to privately investigate the crime and, with little finesse but with great promptitude, he manages to establish who is dead. He also disturbs a hornets nest of local government corruption and blackmail.

In the tradition we have now come to expect from Gerald Hammond, this is a highly entertaining whodunnit, full of character, detailed background and exciting incident.

If you consider Booksbnimble press to be self-pub (I don't, since they have editing staff featured on their website, and I consider lack of decent editing to be the major issue with self-pub titles), skip the rest of this post...

Murder On Magazine is the 10th and most recent (2018) in the Skip Langdon series by Julie Smith. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Murder-Magazi...dp/B079VRDCFC/

Spoiler:
Quote:
SHE NEEDS A KID TO CATCH A KILLER…BUT HOW TO CATCH THE KID?

"Julie Smith writes like jazz should sound—cool, complex, and penetrating right to the heart.” -Val McDermid, best-selling author of the Tony Hill series

The TENTH installment of the Skip Langdon series is a New Orleans feast for the senses, a canine love story, an action-packed police procedural made-to-order for readers who like their female sleuths bold, smart, and refreshingly human. A serial killer is using Airbnb units to stage his murders, but a teenage runaway has escaped his grasp and now she's in the wind, believing she's killed him. Meanwhile the real killer stalks the city – and her.

Cody, the pink-haired sixteen-year-old, should be in school or at the mall texting her friends, not hanging out at the intersection of serial murder and human trafficking. When the options are: (1) Return to a life of slavery (2) Go to jail for murder (3) Be killed by a serial killer, Option 4 makes perfect sense – RUN! As mean as the streets of The City That Care Forgot can be, this child attracts angels (often unlikely ones) – and entire packs of dogs – who come to her aid.

She also finds a friend in NOPD’s newest Sergeant – big (six-foot!), beautiful, tough, and tender-hearted Skip Langdon. Skip knows her best hope of finding the killer is to find Cody – plus she feels for the girl, in whom she recognizes a younger version of her plucky, resourceful, whip-smart self. The city’s hard-boiled; the detective has a heart the size of the Superdome.

Longtime Skip Langdon fans who’ve thirsted for #10 will be delighted to hear the music of New Orleans in Smith’s prose. Fans of female-sleuth authors like Sue Grafton, Marcia Muller, and Linda Barnes, will love Skip Langdon’s pluck and charm. And those who particularly favor female cop stories, especially those by Nevada Barr, Lisa Gardner, Tana French, J.D. Robb, Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, and Anne Hillerman will find a new fave here.

Memento Mori is the 8th and most recent (2018) in the Gaius Petreius Ruso and Tilla series by Ruth Downie. I have been waiting/hoping for it to drop in price, and now it has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Memento-Mor...dp/B07B84C3XP/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A scandal is threatening to engulf the popular spa town of Aquae Sulis (modern-day Bath). The wife of Ruso's best friend, Valens, has been found dead in the sacred hot spring, stabbed through the heart. Fearing the wrath of the goddess and the ruin of the tourist trade, the temple officials are keen to cover up what's happened. But the dead woman's father is demanding justice, and he's accusing Valens of murder.

If Valens turns up to face trial, he will risk execution. If he doesn't, he'll lose his children.

Ruso and Tilla do their best to help but it's difficult to get anyone – even Valens himself – to reveal what really happened. Could Ruso's friend really be guilty as charged?

Slow Horses is the first in the Slough House series by Mick Herron. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Slow-Horses-S...dp/B004HW7DZ2/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/slow-horses-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
The first book in CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning British espionage series starring a team of MI5 agents united by one common bond: They've screwed up royally and will do anything to redeem themselves.

London, England: Slough House is where the washed-up MI5 spies go to while away what's left of their failed careers. The "slow horses," as they’re called, have all disgraced themselves in some way to get relegated here. Maybe they messed up an op badly and can't be trusted anymore. Maybe they got in the way of an ambitious colleague and had the rug yanked out from under them. Maybe they just got too dependent on the bottle—not unusual in this line of work. One thing they all have in common, though, is they all want to be back in the action. And most of them would do anything to get there─even if it means having to collaborate with one another.

River Cartwright, one such “slow horse,” is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself. But is the victim who he first appears to be? And what’s the kidnappers’ connection with a disgraced journalist? As the clock ticks on the execution, River finds that everyone has his own agenda.
