Could you please install the KoboRoot.tgz from the uploaded package and see whether it works? When things go well, this should also fix the wifi and usbNet problem.

How do I instal KSM/KOReader on a Kobo Aura One with a Mac? (High Sierra)

Charged and updated my Kobo and added a few ebooks.

When I open the KOBOeReader drive and show hidden files/folders all I see is:

.adobe-digital-editions
.fseventsd
.kobo
.kobo-images
.Spotlight-V100
List of Folders with Author's Last Names
Two items that are not folders (metadata.calibre and driveinfo.calibre)

Can't find the .adds directory anywhere.

When I drill down into all of the above folders there is no location I can find that matches .adds or kbmenu_user?

You don't have those folders until you install KSM, see the first post in this thread.

You might also want to see if you need those files your Mac put on your device, as the Aura One has no MicroSD. You might need the space.

Thanks Ken! I don't know how I managed to confuse the "install updates" line for the basic KSM install in the first place.

@tshering : can I install pbchess in .adds folder ? (i tried, nothing shows). I didn't install the tar.gz as it's fmon and already been installed when installing KSM for the first time. Do you know what i'm missing ?
(i want to test the mangareader but i don't want to mess too much with my installation because I love the way it is now)

on 3rd boot, USB support worked (other times it said the /mnt/onboard/ partition was busy)

usbnet doesn't seem to work, i tried on windows, and on linux. lsusb command on the linux machine shows no device.

WiFi works.

Can't seem to use 'rmc start' succesfully.

I tried in 2 ways:
When starting KSM, hit 'rmc start'
this does not work

when starting KSM, hit 'wifi enable dhcp'
then hit 'wifi ap scan' (it won't connect without this step, but, it will connect to a network previously connected to in nickel, no password required)
then hit 'rmc start'

usb_enable.sh checks with the lsof command whether there are any open files on /mnt/onboard/. Could you try to check manually which files these are by executing lsof, when this error is reported?

Can KSM automatically start it at boot? There should be a message at the first screen saying whether rmc is started or not.

"rmc start" only starts a server, it does not give any information about its success. Usually, you see whether it was successful only when you sent a request to the server, which you will do via wifi or usbnet. Or you could check with the command ps whether the process is running.
As to the wifi stuff, "wifi enable dhcp", "wifi disable", and "show id" are important. The other stuff was always a bit unreliable. When you hit "show id" shortly after "wifi enable dhcp", you will likely get something like "id not available." The reason is that it takes the id a considerable amount of time to become available. This causes also KSM to take so long to start after boot, when it tries to enable wifi and show the id.

It should suffice to copy the vlasovsoft to .adds, and maybe to restart the device (I cannot remember, whether this is still necessary.). By "nothing shows" you mean to say that there is no vlasovsoft launcher entry in the menu? Or that nothing shows, when you hit this entry?

I meant no vlasovsoft launcher entry showed, but I didn't restart the device so I will test that, thanks !

If yes, we might be able to painlessly figure out the USBNet thing with this.

Basically, unpack it somewhere, and run

The output should help us figure out how to handle USBNet properly

Isn't it strange that you can access the server from the nickel browser via the wlan IP, but not via another browser in the same network?
