I thought you might have solved the mystery when you mentioned a card problem--I DID have a malfunctioning card a few months back that I had to replace, and I suspected I might not have tried to change the Hoopla settings after the replacement. So I optimistically once again changed the settings, powered off and then on (just in case that would help the new settings take effect), borrowed a book and tapped to download. And, once again, my hopes were dashed--Hoopla told me Something went wrong, try again.

So I changed the settings back, and downloaded with no problem. Mystery remains unsolved.

I poked around the phone settings to see if there was anything about how the card was treated, but if there is, I couldn't find it.

Not sure if anyone actually cares, but I was surprised to find this morning that Audible has been releasing some of their exclusive podcasts as, well, podcasts. I spotted them on Spotify, but I also found them on iTunes and Podbean. The ones listed on iTunes are:

• The Butterfly Effect with John Ronson
• Ponzi Supernova
• Presidents Are People Too!
• Hot Mic with Dan Savage
• What Were You Thinking
• Hold On with Eugene Mirman

These are all in Prime Channels, and many have been free in Audible at one time or another.

Actually, I don't care for the podcast format as much as I do the traditional audiobook format. I don't know why. But I think that there are far more free podcasts available out there than free traditional audiobooks.

I was able to access the link that you gave. Spot-checking, it looks like the prices are the same, even though the stated maximum discount is higher for us than for full members (80% vs 70%), and the blurb says that "Discount available to light member plan only."

Has anyone tried this out yet? I downloaded the book but noticed that this version is only 10 hours, not the 12.4 listed above (and everywhere I could find the book). I've re-tried the download a couple of times and always get the same size (thought it might have been an incomplete d/l) and I don't see a mention of an abridged version anywhere.

I'm getting the same thing. Maybe they put the wrong length in the description?

OK, I called PRH and she looked up the book and said it shows 599 minutes (10 hrs) on her system. So it looks like it's a printing error on their part. She indicated that she'd pass on the conversation to have the website corrected.

Ha. It's the wrong book. When the deal was listed, I mentioned there were two books with this same title, and I preferred the other one. As it turns out, this IS the other one--RH said it was the Rena Olsen title, but the download is in fact the J.P. Delaney title.

I didn't realize that both are RH titles--rather silly of them, when the books came out just a few months apart. Anyway, my opinion is that we've ended up with the better book of the two. This one is creepy fun.

P.S. I sent RH a message through their Facebook page to inform them of the mistake.

Maybe they posted the wrong book, not the wrong description. An extra free book would be most welcome.

Sync did this a couple of years back - giving away the wrong title until some people started complaining (the alternate freebie was far from YA, so the complaints were warranted). I missed out on that bonus.

What's really crazy is that the filename itself has Rena Olsen's name in it. If you listen to the beginning of the file, there's a promo for J.P. Delaney's upcoming book. What a screw-up! Serves them right for issuing two books with the same title, both of them suspense. Who does that?
