Just once, it would be nice to read an article where the reviewer is completely unbiased before spending the week testing the ebook reading experience.
It makes me wonder if they're even testing these devices. I got over the non pbook thing within a day.

When I was giving blood this morning I whipped out my Reader, and then had to give 5 demos of it. No one asked if I missed real books

Yet this is one of the more completely researched articles you will see in the NYT these days.

That paper is going bankrupt for a large number of reasons, and the caliber of their reporting is chief among them, Lo, how the mighty have fallen.

It is sort of cute how the reviewer said that the letters seemed deeper below the screen on the Sony vs Kindle.

lessee - the sony 700 isn't a 6 inch screen, is it? the article indicates that the 700 is smaller than kindle, and that the only reason eink is easier on the eyes is less glare.

i swear, the people writing these articles could do better just by spending an hour at mobileread than whatever it is they're doing - or not doing.

Sony’s sleek PRS-700 digital reader, meanwhile, has a 6-inch touch screen and virtual keyboard. As with the Kindle, you can make annotations, and the reader remembers where you left off in a book. This reader, however, does display page numbers, so it’s less confusing if you lose your spot. Both the Kindle and the Sony Reader use E-Ink technology in their displays, which produces less glare.

The $400 Sony Reader is smaller than the Kindle. Sony also makes the PRS-505, for $300.

The 700 has a six-inch screen, just like the Kindle. The device is smaller because it doesn't have the keyboard; but the screen's the same size. I believe it's even the same screen. Personally I think they should have focused on the K2 and 505 as the two most easily available E-Ink readers in the US market.

I also thought the author showed his ignorance (or lack of understanding) when he complained about Fictionwise making him re-enter his name and CC number without mentioning that was part of the eReader DRM scheme, rather than simply calling it clunkiness on Fictionwise's part.

So, he complains about paying for them, and he compains about the work needed to get them for free. Well, I guess some people are curmudgeons.

Go to http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=...num=1&ct=title and then A Walk Through a Crop of Readers. That works to get in to tread the article.

P.S. Can only read page 1 without logging in.

And some people get things because they think its "cool and hip" to have, but never actually bother to learn how to use them... (or don't need them)...*shrug* tinkering with our readers is half the fun we have with them in my house !

I think it particularly impressive how 2 readers make a "crop" these days.. that's a pretty meager harvest even for a rainy winter like this one. :P
