It returns the update URL for 4.8.10956, which is older than the version shipped on the device ... No known affiliate (every one I know about) or original version (I usually use 0.0 to get the latest update, but I tried with every version) seems to return 4.8.11090.

Not sure I follow all that but if it helps, the Clara HD came with an earlier firmware version (4.7.11something) and then updated to 4.8.11090 on first sync.

That is kind of helpful. It would be nice if I could know the whole original firmware version. Recently, Kobo has been doing more checks around the upgrade checks and requiring me to specify the previous version. So far, this has only affected the A1LE, but it seems Kobo may be doing this to all the new devices.

Ok, so I did a factory reset. Here's the version file from before setup:

N2XXXXXXXXXXX,4.1.15,4.7.10733,4.1.15,4.1.15,00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000376

Anything else you need before I set it up again and let it update? (I've made a copy of the .kobo directory)

After a big delivery mess, my Clara HD finally arrived today (and I'm expecting another one with special fast delivery this evening because the current one was supposed to be lost...). First impression: very nice, sleek, and a lot more like a 'real' device than the Glo (the Glo looks a bit like a toy next to it). I even like the black bezel. The screen is very crisp and clear, and very responsive. A big difference with the Glo. It also feels a lot more comfortable in the hand, and also the back has a nice touch to it. Holding the device with a finger under the on/off button is no problem at all.

Happy so far.

Except: they took away ALL the beta features except for the browser!! I was really looking forward to playing the games with a more responsive screen* (Is there any way to sneak the features back in??)

Weirdly, despite the measurements that were previously confirmed by the Dutch retailer's product specialist, the Clara HD is smaller in all dimensions. Height is only 1-2 mm or so shorter though.

Actually, as it is syncing the update, can you see what the update zip in .kobo is called (refresh it while it is plugged in and syncing, and use Kobo desktop to update it).

There was no zip file in the .kobo directory (or it appeared and was removed too quickly for me to catch it)

It might be easier to use the Kobo Desktop App to catch the update file. It should appear in "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition" while it is being downloaded. After the sync to your Kobo, the update .zip file will automagically disappear.

I grabbed a copy of the update zip from Kobo Desktop as it passed by. It was called kobo-update-4.8.zip - very generic.

Let me know if there's anything you need from it.

I think it's firmware 4.8.10956, check the build number in the revinfo file (the first 10 characters).

Oh, that was specifically aiming at the missing games in the beta features. I was just really looking forward to playing the games with a faster processor and more responsive screen compared to my old Glo. I'm happy with the rest of the Clara HD so far! (And I've also seen there's a patch of some sorts in two parts or something to get games back, so I'll have to look into that...)
