I just finished The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. One of those suspense novels with lots of twists and turns. What a ride! Somewhat predictable, but an enjoyable, light read. I seem to enjoy these types of books lately.

Now to finish Monster Hunter Alpha. I'm 50% through it.

Finished Echo Burning. Suspenseful, kept me guessing (in a good way). Best Reacher book I've read so far.

Now reading The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi.

Currently taking a short break from The Three Musketeers, and reading an Elspeth Huxley memoir of her time in Kenya in the 1930's -- Out in the Midday Sun. This covers her return to Kenya as an adult, during the depression, with a commission to write a biography of Lord Delamere, and now married to Gervas Huxley (cousin of Aldous Huxley). It's a time and place I've always enjoyed returning to, and I look forward to this interlude before trudging back into The Three Musketeers.

Trudging is the word, isn't it? I keep finding myself drawn to reading other things when I should be working through Dumas. I am really struggling with the female characters all falling into the maiden or villain/crone tropes and it is just hard.

I am trying to finish up Nnedi Okorafor's Who Fears Death so I can get it back to the library and am listening to Scott Kelly read his memoir Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery.

Just finished Sourdough by Robin Sloan, which was a book I borrowed to read as a replacement for Will Wiles' The Way Inn, which I may come back to but wasn't able to get into right now.

Anyhow, Sourdough is weird and may well be a better/funnier book if I were more familiar with San Francisco and its tech and foodie subcultures. Not bad though.

I am now going to attempt to scale the mountain that is The Three Musketeers - 67 chapters! 240,000 words!!

I am well through The Three Musketeers (up to Chapter 52) and I have found it an enjoyable read. It really isn't all that mountainous, latepaul. I admit it's a long book, but it goes at a rollicking pace.

The Three Musketeers is one of the rare books which I could never finish reading. I must be around halfway when I left it a decade away. I need to go back to it soon.

Most of the movie adaptations only do the first half of the book about the queen's diamond necklace.

The ending was hurried and, frankly, silly. The impossible became possible because of love. That sums up the whole trilogy. Sappy.

Next TBD
Still got this series on my tbr. :P
