it's a good price for those who like or want the Comfort Light/8GB internal storage. also it's suppose to be relatively easy to open up and change the internal 8GB SD card to one of your choice perhaps a 32GB, 64GB or even 128GB. i'm sure some will do so although i won't be one of them. if the Kobo Clara HD had physical page buttons/flush screen then i would have definitely bought one because i do like the size of the device. oh well never mind, maybe one day physical page buttons/flush screen will appear on a new model just maybe best wishes koboy |

Clara seems no different than the Nook Glowlight So what incentive is there to buy this over the Nook if you are in the USA. The new glowlight is nice and has the same night reading feature

The one thing I remember most about you is the loud bellyaching about the removal of sd card slots from devices. (I don't mean that to sound dismissive of a valid complaint, but it was distinctly memorable.) But now you state your firm intention *not* helping yourself when Kobo releases another generation of easy to upgrade model..... I don't get it.

it seems you are implying that you don't agree that removing the external SD card slot from all new models since the H2O was a mistake? if that is the case then you are entitled to your opinion as i am mine. i believe if a point is worth making it's worth making over and over and etc etc etc. that reminds me i haven't watched the King and I for while. the Kobo Clara HD (minus the waterproofing) is just the slightly smaller version of the H2O Edition 2. in fact the Clara HD, H2O ED2 and KA1 are all basically the same device in 3 different sizes. the KA1 being the only one that as overdrive (i wonder if the KA1 being the most expensive of them as anything to do with it?) edit. innovation is a wonderful thing maybe Kobo will try it sometime. thank you i'm always memorable, agree or not or like or not best wishes koboy Last edited by koboy; 05-31-2018 at 10:30 PM.

If Kobo were smart, they would buy out B&N Nook operations to gain a foothold into the US market and then give Amazon a real run for their money. Despite their troubles, Nook US ebook sales alone edge out Kobo sales across the world so teaming up with B&N would double its marketshare. As much as I want the Kobo-Walmart alliance to succeed, I don't think Walmart is going to give them the platform they need. |

If you're happy with the Nook ecosystem or are using the Nook Glowlight 3 with Calibre, I can't see any compelling reason to buy a Kobo Clara. If you're "in" the Kobo world, I can see the advantage of the Clara. The biggest difference (physically) I can see in the two is that the Nook has the page turn buttons. For some that gives the Nook the definite advantage. Others could care less.

You're probably right, but we'll see. Walmart is a huge corporation. I think it's revenue is about five times that of Amazon. So it will probably depend on how much Walmart wants to use Kobo in its move to augment its online competition against Amazon.

The Nook has a significantly larger (wider) bezel on all sides and is thus a larger and also heavier device for the same screen size... I prefer Kobo's more efficient smaller bezel.

I am still using my trusty Kindle 4 (with the lovely physical buttons). However I've really been yearning for a frontlit model for a while and now that those nice warm lights exist I am set on them. I use night shift on my iPhone and f.lux on my computers, so it seems to be the way to go. I suppose for me going to the Clara HD will be a nice upgrade. The PW3 is still interesting as well, but it lacks the natural light feature. Also this new Kobo is slightly smaller and lighter. The advantage of the PW3 at this point seems to be that it can be had cheaper on sale. €130 for the Clara HD feels relatively expensive, but then again, for me it'd be a massive upgrade in any case. Now of course there's still the question of new Kindle models in 2018. |
