There was a talk about improved cpu with Clara HD.
It will have the SLL version of the CPU. But, I doubt that that will make any real improvement on the PDF and CBZ/CBR reading. The issue for both of these is screen size for the page size of the book plus the navigation isn't well designed. If you have a PDF that is sized for a 6" screen, they Glo HD already handles this well. But, as soon as you need to zoom, the navigation makes it hard to get around.

Yes that is a strange place to put a power button. I can see myself hitting the button all the time too. I wonder what the design team was thinking at the time or were they even thinking? Could it perhaps relate to the new sleep cover where the magnetic is at the bottom?

Also what's with the humongous Rakuten label on the back? It looks cheap like Amazon's large label on the Kindles back. The design on the Kobo Aura E2 is far more elegant then this upgrade. This is a meh for me.

It's a better Reader than the Kindle PW3 and it's better than the nook Glowlight 3. The PW3 does not have 8GB ram and does not have the comfortlight pro. The nook is not nice to hold. So yes, the Clara HD is better designed.

Also, according to the video:
- it's 50g lighter than the current PW, "closer" in portability to a 5" reader.
- Has a metal sheet mounted between the screen and the motherboard to make it more resistant;
- The back pops off easily as the Glo HD, he just used his nails to do it.

Might as well just get the original Kobo Aura for $54 on ebay.

The new one is tempting, of course! But more than double the one I just linked.

The Clara is a few grams lighter than the original Aura, and size is pretty close. Very tempting! If only it were waterproof, it would be a clear winner.

Even without being able to understand a word that he said, that was still a better than the GoodEreader.

But, having watched the videos, it seems that none of them have realised that the quick-page turn can be controlled by moving your finger across the bottom of the screen once it has been started.

The two (minor) drawbacks mentioned in the video review as well as in the written review are the non-waterproof design and the fact that the power button was moved from the back side to the bottom, since that makes it easier to inadvertently turn off the device.

He doesn't say anything specific about comic books. He just says that the Clara HD, being a 6 inches e-ink reader, is pretty bad for PDF's, and Rakuten Kobo hasn't done much on the software side over the years to work around the hardware and physical limitations. Bigger e-ink devices or tablets are simply better for PDF's.

On the positive side, it is rugged (thanks to the inner metal plate), lightweight, very compact (feels like a 5" reader), hackable (microsd).

Thanks for the link!

I just bought a refurb Glo HD but got to say now that I know the microSD can be upgraded, I'm somewhat tempted. I do want to hold it in hand first though. I have both the PW3 and Glo HD and I find the PW3 more comfortable despite the device being heavier thanks to the tapered edges. Hoping the lighter weight and slightly thinner dimensions on the Clara HD can offset the boxier build.
