Having shopped at Walmart in both countries, your assessment is accurate. Walmart Canada to me felt like a Target in the US. That is, a regular department/grocery store that both low and middle income people shop at. In the US most middle class people won't set foot in Walmart.

Bad idea if the rumored price is true. That's more than the Paperwhite and Nook cost. As a newcomer in the US market selling at a discount retailer, they need to be competitive on price. Otherwise people have no compelling reason to consider a Kobo over the much more popular Kindle.

I also wish the price was more like $80, but the Kobo is still the only reader I would consider. I require Epub support, and the kepub features are nice. I also really like the hackability of the Kobo readers. I'm also not a fan of much of the Kindle design.

I'm warming up to the Clara after seeing those specs. The slim form factor and 166g weight are quite nice. If it had physical page turn buttons it would be perfect.

BTW, someone asked about OverDrive. There's no mention of OD integration on the device, and the manual says that you need to use Adobe DE to transfer ebooks.
