Read my posts again. There are so many offers that I find the lure of any particular offer greatly reduced.

I even managed to resist buying the first seven James Bond novels at £0.99 each, on the grounds that I certainly wouldn't buy them at full price, and I wasn't really interested in reading them.

You're right, I misread it. (And the Bond wouldn't be much of a lure, here. He's PD in Canada. )

I've now got their sale emails going straight to the bin. Too many, and too few with any real value.

Last day of the month, so I thought I'd check in to say that I bought nothing in May, for the second month this year. I'm holding at seven books on the year. If this looks like showing up in triumphalist mode, it isn't. I used to have a colossal problem (and have a colossal TBR as a result). My analogy is to friends who are alcoholics; even though they haven't had a drink in decades in some cases, they still self-identify as such and go to meetings. Backsliding is always a possibility, so I like to take stock. It does get easier, but I also remember months, years, on end where resolutions would be made to be broken in the near term.

Good luck to everyone who's trying, including me!

Congratulations, issy!

I've bought only 8 in May, and 7 in April. A lot better than the 37 I bought in March!

And I read 14 in April and 10 in May, so the TBR is finally going in the right direction.
I shall endeavour to do even better in June.

Congrats in turn, Paul! This means you've been eating away at the TBR for the past couple of months.

I did pretty good in May. Only 3 books purchased from Kobo and one of those was a freebie. The other 2 were on sale. Oh and plus the freebie from Tor.

I purchased one book in May to use up a $5 credit. So far I bought 7 books this year and read 5 of those.

Totals:
7 purchased spending $16.93

19 read [breakdown as follows]:
9 purchased
9 library loans
1 free

My TBR is going down but I still have many cash-spent books languishing in my pile that no longer seem as attractive as when purchased. Sigh. The addiction may be curtailed but the ramifications linger.

Are these books you've had on your wish list for some time? Were they on special offer? How many similar books have you already bought that are still waiting to be read?

Questions you ought to ask yourself before deciding to buy a book.

I had a reasonable May. Only 6 books read, but also only 5 acquired (3 bought, 1 borrowed, 1 free). Result: happiness.

I did turn down a couple of good offers on non-fiction right at the end of the month, and I'm not sure I should have. I don't think I'm too oversubscribed with non-fiction. Then again, I'm not short of reading material, so I don't think it matters too much.

I'm already 2 down for June, though, thanks to a 1-day freebie on a trilogy omnibus. (I already had book 1.)

A new Stephen King is always a good buy.

I have bought only 1 book this year for 1.99 (I only buy if it hits 2.99 or less). I use ereaderiq to track prices but I am really trying to rely on overdrive. I became a member of four different libraries in my state that don't use a state wide digital system but each library her their own e-book catalog which really cuts down on people waiting in line.
