Several Open Road authors with a bunch of titles at $1.99, not $2.99, which has become a bit unusual for Open Road these days. Links show both $1.99 and $2.99 titles, and may include a stray here and there...

I don't usually post things at $4.99, and I'm not a fan of this author, but I noticed that the most recent (2018) Lincoln Rhyme title by Jeffrey Deaver, The Cutting Edge, has dropped to $4.99 at BN as their Daily Find, and it's price-matched at Kobo and Kindle US. If you are a fan of this author/series, this is not a totally horrible price for a very new title - eReaderIQ shows it normally at $14.99! The price has actually been down for a few days, so I'd grab it fast if you want it...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Cutting-Edge-...dp/B074Z5GFQ6/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-cutting-edge-25
BN: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the...781455536412#/

Spoiler:
Quote:
DANGEROUSLY GOOD. DISTINCTIVELY DEAVER.

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs return to New York City to confront a killer terrorizing couples at their happiest--and most vulnerable.

In the early hours of a quiet, weekend morning in Manhattan's Diamond District, a brutal triple murder shocks the city. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs quickly take the case. Curiously, the killer has left behind a half-million dollars' worth of gems at the murder scene, a jewelry store on 47th street. As more crimes follow, it becomes clear that the killer's target is not gems, but engaged couples themselves.

The Promisor vows to take the lives of men and women during their most precious moments--midway through the purchase of an engagement ring, after a meeting with a wedding planner, trying on the perfect gown for a day that will never come. The Promisor arrives silently, armed with knife or gun, and a time of bliss is transformed, in an instant, to one of horror.

Soon the Promiser makes a dangerous mistake: leaving behind an innocent witness, Vimal Lahori, a talented young diamond cutter, who can help Rhyme and Sachs blow the lid off the case. They must track down Vimal before the killer can correct his fatal error. Then disaster strikes, threatening to tear apart the very fabric of the city--and providing the perfect cover for the killer to slip through the cracks.

The Singing Sands by Josephine Tey £0.99

Usually at least £3.99

On his train back to Scotland for a well-earned rest, Inspector Grant learns that a fellow passenger, one Charles Martin, has been found dead. It looks like a case of misadventure - but Grant is not so sure. Teased by some enigmatic lines of verse that the deceased had apparently scrawled on a newspaper, he follows a trail to the remote Outer Hebrides.

First published 1952

Josephine Tey was a Scottish author; born in Inverness, best known for her mystery novels. In six of the mystery novels, the most famous is The Daughter of Time, in which Grant, laid up in hospital, has friend’s research reference book and contemporary documents so that he can puzzle out the mystery of whether King Richard III of England murdered his nephews, the Princes in the Tower.

The Pot Thief Who Studied Edward Abbey is the most recent (pub like a week ago) in the Michael Orenduff's excellent (IMO) Pot Thief series. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Woo-hoo

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Thief-Studied...dp/B077JMKDSJ/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...d-edward-abbey

Spoiler:
Quote:
The pot thief is going back to school, but someone on campus is trying for a different kind of degree—murder in the first—in this “smartly funny series” (Anne Hillerman).

Before making a somewhat notorious name for himself as a salvager of antiquated pottery and other desert artifacts, Hubie Schuze was an eager student at the University of New Mexico—right up until they booted him out. Now, he’s back at UNM as a pottery teacher. It should be a breeze, but campus life has changed dramatically in the past twenty-five years. From cell phones to trigger warnings to sensitivity workshops, Hubie has to get up to speed fast or risk losing control of his class.

But his dismay at the state of modern academia takes a back seat when a young beauty working as a life model is murdered—and Hubie becomes a suspect. Taking the investigation into his own hands, he soon uncovers a wide palette of sketchy suspects that includes both the self-involved student body and the quarrelsome art school faculty.

But what he doesn’t know is that the murderer has a new artistic project in the works: a headstone for the grave of Hubie Schuze . . .

The Pot Thief Who Studied Edward Abbey is the 8th book in the Pot Thief Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

The Freebies page at Wildside Press still lists the usual suspects, but two more books have been added since I last checked:
  • The Venus Death: A Ralph Lindsay Mystery, by Ben Benson (epub/Kindle/pdf)

    Product Description:
Two attractive women… one personable man… a gun… a shot… and then black headlines asking red blood for… THE VENUS DEATH BY BEN BENSON

Ben Benson’s superb descriptions of the state police at work… and at play… have given all of his mystery novels a unique and buoyant quality of authenticity. The Venus Death is no exception… but here Mr. Benson departs from previous practice to create a vigorous new hero, young state trooper Ralph Lindsey.

This is Lindsey’s story from start to finish. It begins when a glamorous blonde singles him out for personal attention. It continues through the frantic horror of murder… the desperate wish to clear his own name… the urgent, driving need to protect the people he loves. The Venus Death is Ben Benson at top form, which means a strikingly different story for solid reading entertainment.
  • Wildside Press Present Discover a New Author: Janice Law (epub/Kindle/pdf)

    Product Description:
This series of free ebooks is designed to promote authors you may not have tried before. In this case, Janice Law. Here are 3 complete stories and sample chapters of her latest novel, Homeward Dove.

Curious - I got it four years ago (same cover etc.) from Kindle when it was free - but then there were THIRTY titles, not the current Twenty Eight. I wonder which two they axed: I'm certainly not going through both lists to find out!!

From a knowledgeable reviewer on Amazon:
Quote:
The two missing stories, both early ones by the great Dashiel Hammett, are "Arson Plus" and "The Assistant Murderer," presumably removed for copyright reasons. (I notice the "Dashiel Hammett Megapack" has also been removed from the Kindle Store.)

The Paris Spy is the most recent (2017) in the Maggie Hope series by Susan Elia MacNeal. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Paris-Spy-Mag...dp/B01N1HTUWI/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-paris-spy

Spoiler:
Quote:
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • American-born spy and code-breaker extraordinaire Maggie Hope secretly navigates Nazi-occupied France to find two brave women during the darkest days of World War II in the latest novel in this bestselling series—“a treat for WWII buffs and mystery lovers alike” (Booklist, on The Prime Minister’s Secret Agent).

Maggie Hope has come a long way since serving as a typist for Winston Churchill. Now she’s working undercover for the Special Operations Executive in the elegant but eerily silent city of Paris, where SS officers prowl the streets in their Mercedes and the Ritz is draped with swastika banners. Walking among the enemy is tense and terrifying, and even though she’s disguised in chic Chanel, Maggie can’t help longing for home.

But her missions come first. Maggie’s half sister, Elise, has disappeared after being saved from a concentration camp, and Maggie is desperate to find her—that is, if Elise even wants to be found. Equally urgent, Churchill is planning the Allied invasion of France, and SOE agent Erica Calvert has been captured, the whereabouts of her vital research regarding Normandy unknown. Maggie must risk her life to penetrate powerful circles and employ all her talents for deception and spycraft to root out a traitor, find her sister, and locate the reports crucial to planning D-Day in a deadly game of wits with the Nazi intelligence elite.

Also £0.99 at Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Paris-Spy-M...dp/B01N1HTUWI/

A Perilous Undertaking is the second in the Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn, perhaps better known for her Lady Julia Grey series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Perilous-Unde...dp/B01EH1EL20/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-perilous-undertaking

Spoiler:
Quote:
The “wickedly clever and devilishly amusing”* Veronica Speedwell returns for a rousing adventure from the New York Times bestselling author of the Lady Julia Grey Mysteries.

London, 1887. At the Curiosity Club, a ladies-only establishment for daring and intrepid women, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell meets the mysterious Lady Sundridge, who begs her to take on an impossible task—saving society art patron Miles Ramsforth from execution. Ramsforth, accused of the brutal murder of his mistress, Artemisia, will face the hangman’s noose in a week’s time if the real killer is not found.

But Lady Sundridge is not all that she seems, and unmasking her true identity is only the first of many secrets Veronica must uncover. Together with her natural-historian colleague, Stoker, Veronica races against time to find the true murderer. From a Bohemian artists’ colony to a royal palace to a subterranean grotto with a decadent history, the investigation proves to be a very perilous undertaking indeed...

Call Back to Crime is the 6th in the C.I.D Room series by Roderic Jeffries. It is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Call-Back-Cri...dp/B07BSGJR92/

Spoiler:
Quote:
As the detective chief inspector was very quick to point out, the two cases were obviously quite straightforward...

The fire that had killed Mrs Selby must have been accidental, and the beating-up of an old lag had occurred during some perfectly ordinary strong-arm tactics.

But Detective Inspector Fusil of Fortrow C.I.D. refused to accept the obvious, and he and Detective Constable Kerr stubbornly sought proof that Mrs Selby had been murdered and that the beating-up was in some way connected with a one-time villain who was, they claimed, being blackmailed back into a life of crime...
