Light levels appear to be the same on my first generation 6" Aura as well.

My H2O and Glo HD's brightness levels haven't changed either.

I think you all are in a conspiracy.... sitting there reading with your shades on...
![]() But seriously, could there be anything special about Aura HD in general, or mine specifically? |

What a relief, thank you all for so many confirmations of no brightness disaster!

![]() Maybe your eyes are suddenly more sensitive? Are you getting old? Or are your eyes turning (extra) blue? Was it new moon (extra dark) the other night when you noticed the brightness seemed to have increased? |

Well, I'm fortunate in that I'm not seeing any trouble with this firmware. I'm currently reading The Fionavar Tapestry Trilogy. It's a library loan facilitated by Overdrive using the RMSDK and Adobe's DRM. It's also pretty hefty. It'll be interesting to see if I run into any problems reading it...

Interesting result on the memory leak. Indeed it also seems that the books I'm reading are done using Adobe Illustrator based on some XML parameter values in the EPUB and have 7 different custom embedded and obfuscated fonts included. However, when I get the book open on some attempts, changing the font does not have effect. :/ I removed the custom font files and also deleted references to them and defined another font that is included in the reader itself to the CSS file. This seemed to fix the issue, albeit that the beautiful titles, quotes, etc. took a bit of a visual hit. ![]() |

Considering you are seeing this change in the lighting with this firmware I would suggest you might want to go back to the previous FW and see if the lighting goes back to the way it was. |

Thanks. The 1%-setting works fine for me, so no problem there. And this firmware is much, much better at highlights so I'll keep it until next one comes along.

Count me among those who really like this new firmware. I love that the charging light now works (red while charging, green when full), I like the better text selectivity and, maybe it's placebo, but I think the battery discharge while not in use is improved.
I only read kepubs, so I have not seen the epub/font issue. I do agree that they need to separate out the "send Kobo your stats" from "turning on reading stats" choice. I also am not a fan of the single tap for changing the page progress indicator -- would prefer they go back to the long tap so that a single tap brings up the menu instead. |

Just checked on my Aura HD and the light values seem to work the same as prior to the update.

I was also noticing that if the CSS specifies fonts with a list of fonts ending in serif or sans-serif, this seems to default to the publisher default font if none of the named fonts exist on your ereader. ![]() |

Okay. Thanks. Not that I want this, but I'm wondering at what point Kobo will decide that it's time to leave some of their older devices out of the update loop? Amazon no longer updates firmware for the Kindle 1,2,3,4 and the original Touch (and maybe the original Paperwhite?). It doesn't seem unreasonable for Kobo to drop firmware updates for some of their older readers (they've already done it for the Mini and Wireless). This would probably make life a lot easier for them.
